2024 Combine
Re: 2024 Combine
It is weird to see people talk themselves into Kincaid and talk themselves out of Bowers. Idk if it's just nitpick season, but Bowers seems like the safest TE in a while

I always overthink things. I believe details are incredibly important and offer clues to future possibilities.Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:12 am Bowers is arguably the most productive TE in college football of the last 10 years.
+ Broke out as a true freshman (18.7, 95th percentile)
+ Early declare
+ 1st Round Pick
+ Mackey Award Winner
+ 92.0 PFF Receiving Grade - Ranks 1st among all TEs since 2022
+ 91.0 PFF Receiving Grade vs. Zone - Ranks 1st among all TEs since 2022
+ 2.48 YPRR - Ranks 1st among all TEs since 2022
+ 8.1 YAC/R - Ranks 1st among all TEs since 2022
+ 10th in positively-graded run blocking grades among TEs since 2022
+ 121 inline snaps and 148 slot snaps last year
No, you're not going to stick him inline and block him on every play. That'd be a waste of his talent. There is a physicality and technical aspect he lacks to his blocking, but he is still more than capable of playing inline. You're not going to take him off the field for Mercedes Lewis or something.
Blocking is still important to the TE position, but it has evolved significantly to where 12 formation is being used more and more, and teams are prioritizing receiving ability in that role. Playmakers are in higher demand than ever and he's an elite one.
Dalton Kincaid came into the NFL and caught 73 passes last year as a non-blocker. Don't overthink this. Bowers will enter the NFL as a 21-year-old. He's nowhere close to his upside.
I don’t want the TE that comes in for 12 personnel, I want the guy - provided he’s a great athlete and good receiver - who plays in 11 personnel. He’s on the field in both situations, as well as almost all others.
I’ve seen Bowers get blown up by good college DEs. He doesn’t have the sand and he doesn’t have that nasty streak in him to attack them. Blocking is something he does (or tries to do) because he has to, not because he loves to. That means he is going to have real trouble with even average pro DEs and LBs.
I’m not saying Bowers is going to flop as a pro. I’m saying that he’s likely not what is being projected by many - including PFF (who I’ve found less and less accurate with their assessments over the past few years) - as the greatest TE ever to play college football and/or enter the NFL. I don’t believe that, not even close.
That doesn’t mean he can’t be a successful pro. This isn’t binary, where either he’s the greatest ever or he’s a complete failure. There are all sorts of shades of grey between the black and the white. I believe he falls into the inbetween category where he can offer help in the receiving game but he’s going to need to come off the field at times because he’ll be a liability in some situations. Sure, he posted great college receiving stats. But he didn’t look nearly as good as Kittle or Hockenson or Kelce doing it in college, even though those guys didn’t have nearly the opportunity as Bowers did to make plays. And he doesn’t have the size that Waller or Andrews have to create overt mismatches as a move TE.
We’ll see. I very wary of his kind of TE.

Trey Benson just ran 4.39u.

I just remember people questioning his speed, which always was baffling to me.Menace2010 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:17 amDude is an athletic player, has a lot of upside, but also never quite exploded like I'd have liked at FSU. I don’t know how you watch film in him and question his speed. I like him quite a bit and he’s in my top 3-4 RBs in this class. Really nice amalgam of skills that look like they are very transferable.Lumps wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:20 amI just remember people questioning his speed, which always was baffling to me.Menace2010 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:17 amDude is an athletic player, has a lot of upside, but also never quite exploded like I'd have liked at FSU. Audric Estime with a 4.72. Woof! Had heard a little hype for him over the offseason.

I was one of his proponents. He sure isn’t that slow in pads that I’ve seen. I’m going to need to take a much longer look at him.BabyChark23 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:37 am Audric Estime with a 4.72. Woof! Had heard a little hype for him over the offseason.

Re: 2024 Combine
Chance he goes undrafted now. Big, slow RBs with no special teams value just don't have much of a place in the league these days.BabyChark23 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:37 am Audric Estime with a 4.72. Woof! Had heard a little hype for him over the offseason.

And just ran a 4.38 on his second try.
Like I said earlier, Wright is going to be one of the biggest post combine risers. Possibly a first rounder now in rookie drafts.

He turned a 4.44s 40. Is this a slow track? I’m not a huge fan of Wright but he’s faster than that IMO.yinzername wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:47 am Can’t wait to see Wright’s time. He’s crushing it so far today by all accounts
