Purdy vs Lance 2023
Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
Jake Delhomme is the biggest profile QB to have Tommy John surgery, Carson Palmer decided against it after his damage wasn't as severe. I guess the Trey Lance holders may have life just yet.
Interesting that they project Purdy to be back so soon, most baseball players are out a calendar year after TJ surgery but I guess this may highlight the difference between a QB and a Pitcher (most commonly).

Pitchers definitely put a lot more stress on their elbow than QBs do; they throw harder, more often, and with more variety of arm angles.Servo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 3:47 pm Jake Delhomme is the biggest profile QB to have Tommy John surgery, Carson Palmer decided against it after his damage wasn't as severe. If you're going into the 2023 season depending on Purdy or Lance as anything more than a possible backup QB for your team then I like your odds to get Marvin Harrison Jr.

I don't think they've confirmed tommy john surgery. still debating whether he needs actual surgery. it might be something like what Big Ben had?Servo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 3:47 pm Jake Delhomme is the biggest profile QB to have Tommy John surgery, Carson Palmer decided against it after his damage wasn't as severe. Well, he's dealing with a complete tear of the UCL. So Tommy John's or not, I imagine he's having some sort of surgical procedure to fix that issue. Really too bad for him. Guess the team is hopeful he'll be ready for training camp, but who knows? Going to be an interesting offseason in the bay at the QB position.olmansmith wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 5:30 pmI don't think they've confirmed tommy john surgery. still debating whether he needs actual surgery. it might be something like what Big Ben had?Servo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 3:47 pm Jake Delhomme is the biggest profile QB to have Tommy John surgery, Carson Palmer decided against it after his damage wasn't as severe. Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
Traded for Purdy middle of last week on a superflex team I also had Lance (+Lawrence and Tua). Figured it would give me a little insurance. I fully expect neither to start now lol
Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
1qb I agree but in sf..... We're really not in a great spot QB wise right now. I think they're fine as a qb2 as long as you have a low upside safe option as well or the assets to go get a Mac/goff/tanny typeAllEliteDynasty wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 4:37 pm If you're going into the 2023 season depending on Purdy or Lance as anything more than a possible backup QB for your team then I like your odds to get Marvin Harrison Jr.

It really is too bad. He will definitely need surgery. My guess is 8-10 months to rehab at least to get back 100%.Shoreline Steamers wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 5:33 pm

San Fran can't keep their QB's healthy in that high risk offense. The door may be opening for Brady.

Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
And honestly, how many times a year do we see a QB hit his arm/hand on someone's helmet, or have his arm hit by a defender trying to knock the ball out? It's quite a lot over the course of a season. And while some guys end up with fractures, I don't recall a QB tearing ligaments in their elbow. 49er's are just snake-bit at the QB spot.Ice wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 8:47 amIt really is too bad. Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
Shanahan has to be losing patience. I really like Purdy but this blew everything up. Brady and maybe Rodgers if they could figure out the numbers are squarely in play. I don't see the 49ers willing to be patient for another few years hoping Lance emerges or Purdy comes back strong. I guess Jimmy G could still remain but I think they'll want more change than that.

Was referring to if Brady & Lance are your two active QBs. Total opposites. Lance is totally a RPO threat like Fields which they'd fall down laughing at the sight of Brady trying to run that. Lance isn't being utilized to his fullest if you cater your game plans to accommodate TB12.bjd5211 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 2:35 pmIt wouldn't be a change in philosophy at all, Brady is a better version of Jimmy G/Purdy and is exactly the kind of QB Shannahan wants in his offense. Their roster is constructed to win now and will soon age/price themselves out of their current window, and Brady is the perfect fit to come in and be the reliable and durable distributor this team needs. Lance will be traded or used in a gadget role, but he's not going to be the QB that gets this current roster over the final hurdle they've been stuck at for a couple years.cazzie33 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 1:43 pmCould be a shuffling of the deck and philosophy if that's the case. Definitely would have to run two different offenses if you keep Lance as the backup. But it may be best bet to winning . Unless you bring back the other former bay area herobjd5211 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 7:16 am https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status ... jyudymlOhg
It might be a UCL injury for Purdy and if so could require Tommy John surgery depending on the severity, which would at minimum put him out for the entire offseason and training camp. I still think Brady is the 49ers QB next year and they groom Purdy to replace him.
Actually the other bay area ties guy would be awesome and might give a couple more years to let young guys get up to speed. Cap went up but still it would be hard to fit his salary into the team's picture. Might have to give up the belt and not get paid like the highest in the game.

Well, it might be a good opportunity for Lance to diversify his game, plus depending on his recovery, Purdy could be in the mix as the primary backup as well.cazzie33 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:47 pmWas referring to if Brady & Lance are your two active QBs. On another note, am I crazy to think Brady isn't a good option? A) I think his arm strength showed a ton of decline this year and B) Brady is very demanding on the precision of his WRs route running which doesn't seem like the strength of Deebo & Aiyuk. They seem to be at their best when getting them in space more so than being at a specific point on the field at exactly the righttime.

And Purdy and Lance are similar? It's the same situation either way, and therefore not a change in philosophy at all.cazzie33 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:47 pmWas referring to if Brady & Lance are your two active QBs. Re: Purdy vs Lance 2023
Purdy can actually move and therefore at least a threat to keep ball & get positive yardage. So yes you can run the same offense to a degree. Obviously you won't run as much but you can still bootleg and throw or run. Brady does not give you that at allbjd5211 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:37 pmAnd Purdy and Lance are similar?
