He's had some bad drops in the preseason including a red zone one yesterday.

Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
He's impressed me this preseason. Looks like he's a great bet to make the roster. Last night he was the go to receiver, but I'm not sure that's saying much when looking at the team the Colts were putting out there.
Doubt we see much from him early in this season, but if TY goes down he will fit into that role well and could definitely make some noise.
Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
He's pretty raw still, but he still has the it factor look to him. Will be interesting with the TY news if he sees the field.
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
I think they're gonna rotate their backs in a ton and use a bunch of 2 TE sets.
Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
Absolutely. And I think that is why I am advocating do both.mild wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 7:36 pmAgreement there; that is most certainly the trick. And it's different for every player, and this is where our skill as dynasty managers + a little bit of luck comes in.Pullo Vision wrote: ↑Thu Aug 26, 2021 7:20 pm To me, the trick is figuring when the sell point is and what value to get. JRob and Fulgham were both examples last year. I held Robinson throughout the first half of last season as he secured a bellcow role and was very productive with those touches, until I eventually sold for picks and youth. Didn't have that luck w Fulgham, should've been more aggressive trying to deal him when he popped.
Depending on the league and roster, I could see waiting until I can get a 2nd. I'm not certain now is the sell point for Strachan.
My current "panning for gold in the gutter" man-crush pickup Marquez Callaway comes to mind. There's no doubt to me that he's about to experience a very fast September ADP rise, simply through targets and lack of competition (health and Payton permitting). Easy hold.
Fair enough if you think Strachan is a similar hold, but I see far more questions for his outlook. But that's why we play the game! We're about to have the rubber seriously hit the road and come colliding hard with the brick walls of reality on lots of these situations... reducing your risk whilst giving your roster more wiggle room for the Week 1 waiver wire rush is always recommended imo.
BTW, just an addendum on this subject - but I made one of my all-time favourite trades this offseason for exactly this reason... I sent Austin Ekeler, Chase Edmonds, and Jonnu Smith - for Kyle Pitts.
The best part? I grabbed every single one of those players off of the waiver wire. Quite literally a water-into-wine trade, years of waiver grind in the making. That's what it looks like when being proactive on the wire works out... but you've got to have the space to burn-and-churn players in the first place. If someone is giving you an "out" on a prospect for a pick, then that's got additional value to it at this time of year - especially with cutdowns in lots of leagues this weekend, plus the Week 1 waiver wire.
It's the hidden valuation of always trying to roll your roster upwards into "Stars and Scrubs". Flexibility to speculate has worth, and we barely talk about it.
IE we can go ahead and trade the majority of the guys we believe are flash-in-the-pans for improved draft capital.
Simply saying we can do both. We can grind grind grind most of the time and at the same time take a chance each year on a flier whose odds we feel are 5% rather than 1%. There is no reason we need to trade every lottery ticket nor is there a reason we need to stash every lottery ticket. The key is taking the shots that feel appropriate. Sort of like Ekeler above. mild mentioned he got him off waivers - he could have flipped him early on for much less but instead he rode the player and figured out the best time for his team to trade him away.
It is not an either/or proposition - it is do both, use all the tools, rather than assuming only 1 way works. Combining both can lead to success stories as mentioned above. Going to be fun to see over the next little while if Strachan sticks - once he does then it really becomes interesting to each owner to determine when to move on.
Please speak to clarion contrarion before considering the use of vetos..

Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
Being a 7th round pick, he’s already crossed a huge hurdle: making the team.
With TY already having issues, this only moves him up the chart. How much will he see the field?
Not much if at all.
Another injury to their oft injured WRs though?
He may be given a chance. Then it’s on him.
Holding.

TY Hilton moved onto IR. Is he about to get Pipped?
Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
??? Five orange pips? I hope not
Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
Ourlads has Strachan slated right behind Hilton as his backup. If that’s an accurate prediction…is Strachan in line for more work than Campbell?

Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
Not sure about that just yet.. but it creeeeaks open the door for Strachan. If he steps out there for a handful of snaps and ends up making a big splash play, the door will begin to open even wider. He needs to stay consistent. Can’t have another drop in the end zone like he did last game.

Took him 3.11. Figured late enough that everyone is a long shot. Colts homer picks 4.08, so figured he’d be gone by my 4.11 (not allowed to trade picks last 3rd round).

Re: Mike Strachan...hype or real deal?
This year's Antonio Gibson ... If you drafted @ NFL draft time in April / May AG went mid 3rd or later. If you drafted late Aug was early 2nd
Strachan was often undrafted April / May in 4 rd drafts. Late 5th or 6th in deeper. If drafting this weekend probably mid-late 2nd , definitely by the end of the 3rd upon T.Y. status.
That's why I prefer the earliest draft dates. Tests your convictions about prospects. Late Aug drafters will tell you they loved these kind of guys but in April / May drafts they weren't even on their radar.
Love having healthy debates about projections of how guys will fit into NFL roles. Gibson was a favorite as most thought there was no way he'd be a legit NFL running back. Projected by many to morph into slot receiver because of the way he was used @ Memphis.
Strachan was viewed as a workout warrior like Fehoko & Imortehebe . None were proficient route runners but Strachan was more like a Golladay watching what few highlights there were available. Those two have the ability like a basketball player to contort their body's at the catch point & blockout the defender(s) then use their length and get hand on the ball. Both were solid & willing blockers that coaches especially in the NFL love which helps get you reps on the field instead of being a 3rd down mostly specialist early in your career. Others are big bodied but don't play to their size.
Being a Michigan fan we seem to get a majority of those types. Harbaugh hasn't been very adept at developing those guys as weapons. Perhaps DPJ and Nico break the mold. Often wonder if being a big fish in a small pond doesn't help prepare you better as you get to be a target monster and learn how to play as the focus of not only the offense but the defenses who constantly double&triple team you. Speaking mostly about physical talents who need to hone their craft. Studs are going to be fed targets whether @ Alabama / Oklahoma / Ohio St (just not @ U-M )
Of course you never hear about the ones we got wrong ... WRONG !!!
One guy I thought mirrored the Golladay / Strachan trajectory was Robert Davis who was a late pick of the 'Skins. Just as he was about to compete for a starting job in his 2nd year suffered a gruesome multiple tears leg injury so will never know.
Dawson Knox is another albeit as a TE. Really thought he'd be a TE 1 after he developed a cpl of years. Not looking like it's a happening although he is starting still.
Strachan is going to be a fun watch to see if he develops into a WR 1 or just a piece. Being as Pittman & he are quite alike it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Will one become the go to guy or not
