Long-term: Alshon Jeffery vs Mike Williams

Postby Seventy5 » Wed Jul 12, 2017 3:23 pm

Jeffery>Williams this year, but who would you rather have for the long-haul and why?

I'd be curious to hear opinions on why one should clearly be ahead of the other. Both of these players could easily see their values skyrocket or dip this year. Their values going in either direction wouldn't be a surprise

If I was rebuilding, I'd much rather have Williams. Jeffery has always struggled with injuries and while he isn't that old, he is still up there in age.

Alshon. I already know what he's capable of doing and is young enough where he can continue to do for a few more years. Don't know what I'm getting with Williams.

Alshon and it's not remotely close for me. Would need more than 1.6 for him in a rebuild.

Alshon for me. Give him a chance on the Eagles being healthy. Alshon has also proven his talent as well.

I'd go Alshon simply because he's proven himself albeit sporadically which drives us owners crazy.

If I had to make a decision today it would be Jeffery. I know he has his share of injuries, but so does Mike Williams. A neck injury that sidelined him for an entire season in college, now Williams as a herniated disc in his back. Now, he may be fine by September and I'd even be fine stashing him until he gets caught up with the offense. But, back injuries before he's even taken a NFL snap has to be a red flag. He's 6'4", so that's a big target for would be tacklers looking to light him up.

I went with Alison even though I'm not sure who that is. I just assumed it had to be better than Mike Williams.

Hard to consider a trade like this without considering the current year, which is the most important and easiest to consider.

Alshon is very likely to have more value than Williams this time next year, so I would go with him. That said, Alshon seems like the type of WR that will NOT age well (weight issues, soft tissue injuries, now the PED suspension) and he is going to be a FA again next year. I am not a big believer in him long-term.

I probably should have done something more productive with that time...

Piling on with Alshon here. Williams has kind of settled into that 1.06 spot, and I wouldn't give Alshon up for that. That said, I don't see Williams losing a ton of value come this time next year. He's a relatively high rookie pick going into a situation that not many people expect big things from year one. However, if Alshon struggles with injuries yet again and/or gets suspended again, his value good drop quite a bit more than it already has. That said, he also has a great opportunity to boost his value back up into that first round startup value conversation.

Alshon has 1 WR1 season in 5 years. I understand he's been injured but my team doesn't get a mulligan in the championship because Alshon hammy is acting up. I'm going to bet that M Williams has at least 1 WR1 season in the next five years. If Alshon doesn't put up elite numbers this year his value is going to be outside the top 50. I don't believe he's an elite talent, and at the age of 27 his value will start to be on the decline.

Williams has a higher draft pedigree, was more productive in college, is young in a strong passing offense, which is giving him the opportunity to become the go to guy and let KA walk going forward. Unless williams has a treadwell like season, it's hard for me to believe that these receivers won't be viewed as a closer value as early as next year.
