Vikes @ 49ers

Postby Phish Brigade » Sun Aug 22, 2010 5:00 pm

I thought about making 3 threads for this game to satisfy Favre's appetite for attention, but I think one should be enough.

I wish Sid Rice and Crabtree were going to be in the lineup so we could get a look at them. Reports were very positive on Crabtree until his neck injury. This whole hip thing with Sid is dragging on too long for my liking.

Obviously, we want to see Favre. We all want to see ADP. But I want to see Gore and Westbrook get a few carries behind that new OLine.

My bad. I guess Gore still isn't playing. What's up with that anyway? Is Singletary giving him the LT treatment?

That's what the announcers insinuated.

Alex Smith looking very poised right now, and is making some plays without any of his normal weapons (Gore, Crabtree, V. Davis).

GREAT touchdown run by Dixon. He got around that corner and back upfield real quick for a guy of his size.

Dixon looked nice on that TD on the opening drive vs the tough Viking Defense....

Dixon looks a little lighter than I thought he was. Back in April, I thought he'd be nothing but a short yardage/goal line RB. Very nice run to bounce it outside and get to the pylon. He's looking like a nice value pick in rookie drafts.

IMO Dixon is looking less then avg. thus far. The Vikes run D looks like its normal self. Pass defense needs to shake off the rust, looking sloppy and a bit lazy. Petersons missed block could have really diminished hopes for Vikes fans this season. The kickoff coverage by the Vikes looked like once again its going to be a struggle this year. But the rookies on that offensive line for the niners are holding up well against argueably the best front four in the game.

Tjack is making smart, quick decisions earlly and delivering passes nicely. Nice little run there as well.

Once again the kick coverage finds itself lacking

You never know. Alex Smith kept the chains moving tonight and looked pretty good, but if he stinks it up... his leash is probably among the shortest for starting QBs right now.

What about Ted Ginn? They keep saying that his hands/confidence has really improved. Can Singletary make this former 1st rounder into a man like he did with Vernon Davis? You Niner fans should be very thankful that you guys have Singletary. He could be have a Bill Cowher like career in SF as a coach.

I was very pleased when he was promoted to HC. Tonights impressions- Very nice opening drive by the 49ers. Good solid play by Alex Smith. Glad to see Anthony Dixon get some extended playing time...but didn't it seemed like he danced quite a bit before hitting the line? 49er defense looked aggressive  Impressed by Nate Davis' play.

Joe Webb also was intriguing. Curious as to what role the Vikings will have him play...

Davis lookes really good, I know the offensive line helps, but this kid looks better than guys like Freeman,Edwards,& Leftwich. He's worth monitoring. I thought Chris Redman looked good last year during the preseason, but he'll never get an opportunity to start unless he's traded. I see a similar possibility turning out in SF.
