What to do with Deion Jones?

Postby yellowdart2448 » Fri Jul 29, 2022 5:17 am

When Jones was a rookie, I ended up drafting him in multiple IDP dynasty leagues and it worked out great. But now I have a lot of him and I'm not sure what to do. There is one IDP league in particular I play in that is 16 teams with 10 offense and 10 defense starters. You have to start 3 LBs plus an IDP. And the scoring is setup to actually make great IDP players worth something (i.e. TJ Watt has finished 16th or better in overall scoring the past 3 years; finished 5th last year). 9 of the top 32 players were IDP in overall scoring; nearly 50% of the top 100 were IDP. Last year Jones outscored Aaron Jones and the same as Lamb. Just to give an idea.

Anyways, I feel like if I'm ever going to move on, now is the time. I was offered Pete Werner and a projected late 2023 3rd for Jones and my projected late 2023 5th. I tried making it his 2nd for my 4th but he said no. Would a trade like this be wise? Or should I just hope Jones keeps his gig this year and ride it out? I finished 3rd last year and I have the best IDP in the league IMO. I did trade Brooks and Gibson for Javontae Williams last month. Here is my team...

Start 1QB, 2RB, 3 WR, 1TE, 2Flex, 1SF, 1DP, 3DL, 3LB, 3DB
QBs: Mahomes Dak, Geno
RBs: Ekeler, J. Williams, Hines, a bunch of backups
WRs: Cooper, Arob, Lockett, Campbell, Westbrook-Ikhine, Julio, Bourne, Samuels, Mims, Rodgers, T. Johnson
TEs: Schultz, Thomas, Parham, Granson
LBs: Leonard, Kendricks, Jones, Perryman, Gay, Barton, Greenlaw, Deablo (also DB eliglbe), Asamoah, B. Smith
DLs: TJ Watt, Hunter, Buckner, Lawson
DBs: Terrell, Whitehead, Bell, C. Davis, T Johnson, B Jones

Any help would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

I like the Werner deal a lot but I’m particularly bullish on Pete this year. Good chance still that ATL cuts Jones as he isn’t part of their future plans I don’t think. If that happens, who knows how things play out. Evans will outproduce him in ATL I think too if he doesn’t get cut.

I like Pete and think that deal helps reset the clock. Jones isn’t likely to disappear, but he’s going to be in a late start with a team and the situation is TBD at this point. I think that’s a deal I would make, and may pursue myself in a team I am deep at LB. In your league what do you think Jones is as a pick? At best it’s a 2nd, but that could be tough to come by, but nonetheless it at best is a 2/5 for a 3/3 (or 3/4 depending how you value Warner). With Kwon now not returning, I think that increases the chances no additional LB depth comes in (unless it’s Jones…but then it isn’t great for Jones anyway).

I feel pretty strongly that if you send offers out to every team in your league, you can get a better offer than Werner.

There are still quite a few dynasty managers who are high on Jones’ name.
