Maclin vs Julio

Postby Warhawks » Sat Aug 13, 2011 6:55 pm

Not taking Maclin's mysterious illness into account how far apart are these 2 guys? Both are in great situations, great QBs and young. We know what Maclin can do at this level but Julio still has to prove it. I personally have Maclin edging out Julio by only a few spots in my rankings. Where would you rank these 2?

Do you think you should take the illness into concern- what if it takes him all season to recover from the effects? What if the condition is lingering?
orphan rebuild- 3 superflex, nerfed QB scoring 0.5/1/1.5 wr/rb/te PPR
QB: Hurts, Dobbs, Lance, Huntley, Bagent
RB: Swift, Kamara, Sanders, K. Mitchell, Foreman, CEH, Dowdle, Demercado
WR: Lamb, AJB, DK, Hollywood, Jakobi, Lazard, Boyd, Shaheed, Douglas
TE: Chig, Juwan, Conklin, Taysom, Smythe
Picks: 3 2024 2nds

rebuild 2: 1QB PPR
QB: Richardson, Pickett, Mayfield
RB: Achane, E Mitchell, Demercado
WR: Chase, Addison, QJ, J Palmer, Wan'Dale, Claypool, Douglas, Metchie
TE: Kittle, Mayer, Otton, Ferguson
Picks: 3 2024 1sts, 2 2024 2nds

I want to know what people think of these 2 guys healthy because I believe Maclin will be.

Healthy, Maclin has to be the choice here. But it's not that far off depending on how much risk you're willing to absorb with a rookie in the short term. Assuming health is optimistic which is fine and all, but ignoring the clear signs there may be a serious concern is foolish IMO. If I were drafting as we speak I'd take Julio.
Team 1: 10 Team, 4 Keeper League, Non-PPR
QB: Deshaun Watson
RB: Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, Kareem Hunt
WR: Julio Jones, Dez Bryant
TE: Rob Gronkowski

I'm not ignoring them and know the health issues are very much real. I just wanted to get a take on what people thought of these 2 putting injuries/healthy concerns aside.

If you could absolutely guarantee me that Maclin was going to be healthy for the rest of his career, I'd take him over Julio by a small margin. The reasoning is simple: He's already proven it and Julio hasn't.

With that said, I have them close enough that if I were drafting today (or trading or whatever) I'd absolutely take Jones over Maclin without a second thought. They are close enough in my mind that taking Julio is a no brainer in order to avoid this whole Maclin illness headache. Not taking the illness "into account" is very foolish at this stage when comparing such similar upside players, IMO.

I'd find it tough to take any rookie over Maclin.

I would take Maclin and I don't have to think about it.

I would take Julio, I like his style of play better than Maclins.

I also prefer Maclin.

Well Maclin isn't healthy and has gone through this multiple times so assuming he'll be fine is risky. I'd take Julio over a healthy Maclin hands down. Julio is going to be a monster WR1.

Maclin now, but I'll say that Julio certainly has the ability to over-take him in the rankings. I think Julio has a higher ceiling, but has a lot of skill to gain before he reaches it. Maclin is talented and skilled right now. And experienced.

We'll see how Julio progresses, but he has HUGE potential and has nothing negative going for him thus far. This COULD be a case, if both player develop to their potentials, of one player being great and one player being very, very good.

Maclin went #36 and Julio #50 (me) in a recent 12-team start-up and I think that's probably fairly typical of their currently perceived values.

A healthy Maclin would easily be my choice.
