Randall Cobb and Alex Green to the Packers!

Postby meineymoe » Fri Apr 29, 2011 8:40 pm

Cobb will be a great addition to special teams and the return game, and even some offensive packages for Green Bay - I read a comparison to Percy Harvin, though not as explosive - but a former RB who just needs to get the ball in his hands.

Alex Green - not as excited about, but still, drafted earlier than Starks was last year, so there's that.

A great offense gets greater. Wow. Set at every offensive skill position, though I'm not excited about Alex Green - certainly not as excited as some. Have to be even more nervous if you own Ryan Grant, I imagine. I still like Starks who dropped due to injury concerns - not a lack of talent - to remain the feature back there.

I disagree, Green's talent is AT LEAST as bright as Starks.

It's high time to pump the brakes on the Starks hype train.

As a Packer fan, love the Cobb selection to play the slot. The rich get richer.

Not so crazy bout the Green pick. Below is the analysis in GB, Wi today....

Alex Green, RB, Hawaii
Strengths: Thickly built and well-proportioned. Has good feet and competitive speed to accelerate when he breaks through the line. Very agile for his size. Capitalized on increased carries and gained more than eight yards per carry as a senior. Has soft hands. Can stick his foot in the ground and turn upfield quickly.

Weaknesses: Ball control has been an issue – fumbled eight times in 271 touches his final two seasons. Runs upright and is not powerful. Can be more physical as a blocker. Only a one-year producer and numbers are inflated by a pass-happy “pistol” offense featuring wide splits against porous WAC defenses. Was never asked to handle a heavy workload. Could take time adapting to a pro playbook.

Of course, can't argue with the talent evaluation team in GB but have to question when OLB is a need also. Looks like the Brandon Jackson era is over, not so much an indictment of James Starks as the feature back.
