1st round pick 2011

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

1st round pick 2011

Postby pnt71 » Wed Apr 14, 2010 1:54 pm

Hi

I recently took over a new team in very competitive keeper league. It's a 25 man roster, 12 teams. (It's not the rosters in the signature). The team more or less sucked, so it is quite a challenge to get this team rebuild. One of my problems is - what to do with the 1st round pick next year. I will probably end last or second to last, so the pick is 1.01, 1.02 - maybe if all goes well, 1.03. The rest of the owners have stormed med trade offers to get that 1st rounder next year (18 trade offers so far in a week) - they can also see, that it's a low pick ;-). I said to myself, when I took over the team, that I need to keep my draft picks - so I have turned every offer down so far. What would you say to these four offers - these are the ones, that is up right now, but it could easily be another trade offer - or five. Please give me some advice on what to do with the 1st 2011. Should I keep turning offers down?

Roster:
QB: Bulger, N. Davis, Delhomme, Sanchez
RB: Gore, Coffee, Jacobs, Portis
WR: Bennett, Chambers, Crayton, Evans, Gonzalez, Meachem, Stroughter, Sweed, Douglas, Robinson
TE: Shianco, Lee

Trade offers on 1st 2011:
#1
I get: Kolb, O. Daniels, 1.06 2010
I give: Gore, Coffee, 1st 2011

#2
I get: Avery, 2.09, 3.06, 3.09 2010
I give: 1st 2011

#3
I get: Jennings, 2nd 2011
I give: Gore, 1st 2011

#4
I get: Avery, Collie
I give: 1st 2011

Thanks in advance

What draft picks do you have this year?

Regardless, I probably wouldn't take any of those offers. You have plenty of mediocre WR's. You don't need Avery or Collie. So #2 and #4 are definite no's.
#1 - My guess is Gore still has about 2-3 years left in the tank. So even though you aren't going to win the trophy this year, he still has some future value. Kolb is a risk. And trading next year's 1.01-3 for this year's 1.06 doesn't really help, considering this isn't your year to win.
#3 - Jennings is reasonable to offer for Gore considering he has many more years ahead of him as the #1 WR in an offense with an elite QB. But if you truly believe that 2011 pick will be the 1.01, I still wouldn't make this trade. Plus, you need RBs, not more WRs.

Mendenhall, Thomas, Moreno, Slaton, Maroney
Fitz, R Moss, Meachem, TO, Chambers, Avery, James Jones
Gates, Winslow, Z Miller

Sorry - my draft picks this year: 2.01, 2.06, 2.13, 3.01, 3.13

It's exactly what I'm thinking, keelsatx.

But should I keep the 1st 2011 at all cost - say no to everything...Or is it just to sit tight and wait until the right trade offer comes along...

Pass, none of those deals are worth considering.

Yeah, none of these deals help you rebuild this team, IMO.

Gotta agree with everyone. Those deals stink!! Apparently you are in the drivers seat. You tell THEM what YOU want for the pick. If they don't want to pay the price...keep the pick. No harm no foul. Maybe you can get a dream package for it.

Well according to you, everyone in your league already considers that pick as a top 3. They're probably hoping that you have more faith in your team than is reasonable. Treat it as a top 3 pick, and if no one wants to give you something worthwhile then hold on to it. Like yumbo said, you're in the driver's seat

Since the pick is so popular, you should be able to name a price.

btw - I don't think this team is that awful - you could surprise if you make the right moves....

Looking at your squad, the top need is a stud WR.

So.... start with 2011 1st straight up for a target WR - maybe G Jennings (team #3)

from the looks of it, the other teams look to rob you, so be wary.

All terrible offers.

Agree with everyone here. You should be looking to add future picks not deal them. But that doesn't mean if someone offers you a great deal you dont take it. I would see if you can get something for gore. Maybe a mid 1st this year plus a 2011 1st? And I would see if anyone will give you a future 2nd for portis or Jacobs or evans for that matter.

I disagree. I think Gore could be the centerpiece of a playoff run this season. If anything, try to move Portis and Jacobs first.

a better counter for offer #3 is the 2011 1st for Greg Jennings.
