Buyers Remorse

Postby Novacane » Fri Jun 06, 2014 6:35 pm

I adopted an orphan team that was in really bad shape. Team 2 in my signature. Only players of decent value are Garcon and Torrey Smith (and you could argue Brady). There were NO starting RBs (just MJD, Shonne Greene and Fred Jackson). But the team was loaded with picks including 1.1. Someone offered me Spiller and 1.4 for 1.1 and I accepted feeling like it was a steal. I recently found this site and after reading some of your responses, I am feeling like I undervalued the top pick. For purposes of improving my game going forward, please rate my trade.
Team 1

12 Team .2 PPR (1 PPR after 5 rec), salary cap.

2017 Picks: 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5

Team 2

12 team .2 PPR (full point after 5 receptions), salary cap. 1QB, 0-3RB, 2-5 WR, 1-3 TE.

TE: Eifert, Ebron,

2017 Picks: 1.06, 1.10, 2.06, 3.01, 3.10

Team 3 (3rd Year Orphan)

not too bad, you'll still get Sankey or Cooks at 1.04 and this draft is loaded w/ players.. hit a big player or 2 and you'll be on your feet in no time

Assuming you are able to get Cooks at 1.4 I don't hate this trade. Watkins is definitely better, but adding Spiller probably comes close to bridging the gap

Seems like a pretty good trade for me. If you're lacking quality players, then it was a solid move to give you a stronger core set of players.

Great trade!

That's how you start turning around an orphaned team in rough shape.

As I've said a few times before when it comes to assessing a teams state as contender or pretender:

If i feel as though i am 2-3 years out as a contender then I don't focus on RB help until i feel like i will be competing within the next 1 or 2 years

If i feel as though i am close then yeah, i try to make trades like you did above.

I don't know what the other teams look like in your league but I think it was a good trade. If you think you are still a rebuild, just try to flip spiller after a good week 1/2 for picks and wr.

Rebuild/Contender/Pretender/Upstart/Middle of the pack/ etc. etc etc. It doesn't matter to me what kind of label I put on my team, I trade for one thing in dynasty leagues...VALUE. That's very good value for you. Getting Spiller to move back 3 spots to the 1.04 is a very nice trade for you. Given your team makeup though, I'd be looking to flip Spiller.

Agreed.

That's an interesting notion Badger. I hadn't considered ever not investing in RBs, but I've always been a contender.

I think that's a pretty damn good deal for both sides.

You improved greatly by only moving back 4 spots. History shows that owning a top 5 pick is awesome, almost no matter what spot you're in.

I would be very happy to have the likes of Watkins, Evans, Sankey, Cooks, or Ebron on a rebuild. Heck, I'd try to move back another spot or 2 and pick up even more if possible. This is a deep draft you know.
