Thinking of moving Calvin...

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Thinking of moving Calvin...

Postby StraightCashHomie » Tue Jul 31, 2012 1:40 pm

I'm trying to put together a big trade to move Calvin, how does this offer sound?

My Calvin & Freeman for his Mathews, V-Jax, Torrey Smith and Blaine Gabbert

It's the second team in my sig. We just finished up the startup draft recently and need to start a lot of players, as you can see. I feel like I would be giving my offense a big boost by upgrading some of the supporting pieces. Am I asking for too much?

Calvin went at 1.05, Freeman at 10.12
Mathews at 1.10, Vjax at 3.10, T.Smith at 5.10 and Gabbert at 21.10

He's got S-Jax, Lynch and Turbin at RB. And he has Schaub/Gabbert at QB.

Let me know!

I don't see V.Jax, Smith or Fleener as good enough players to make up for losing Johnson. You are giving up a guy who is almost a lock to be a top 3 wr for a long time for a rb who may or may not be durable enough to produce good numbers. That's a big gamble to me, and I like Mathews a lot.

I agree with this. You need to get proven talent in return for Calvin.

I see where you guys are coming from, but some reasons that I think I'd be willing to do this are:

1) It's the inaugural season in a 16 team league, with 11 offensive starters every week. This gives me legitimate starters across the board, I don't need to start Hankerson and Andre Roberts every week. It also gives me a better backup TE should Fred Davis slip up and get suspended for a year. Having Mathews/Forte/Spiller/Ridley/Vjax/ABrown/DMoore/TSmith/Washington as my starting 9 RB/WR is a very good situation imo.

2) I am a firm believer that Ryan Mathews recent injuries have been ridiculously overblown, and are more a result of fluke than anything else. 1500 combines yards last year, 4.9 per carry and 50 catches last year. Vjax has been reported as a beast in TB camp, and I'm really high on Torrey Smith this year.

3) I have Calvin in my other dynasty league. I know that this should not influence my decision at all, but I still like the idea of hedging my bets a little with the Madden Curse lurking. Lol!

Am I crazy?

While I can see why you would want to trade Calvin, I would not do it. Us GM's try every day to get "STUD" players like Calvin on our team. And when we get them it would take alot if anything to get us to trade them away! Calvin will be dominant for many years to come. Once you trade him, you'll be trying to acquire the "next Calvin". I say keep your stud players like Calvin and be happy.

Playing the waiver wire and picking the right sleepers can easily add depth and fill holes. You're not going to find studs this way. Keep Calvin and try to improve your depth via other means.

Calvin is the #1 player to own in dynasty leagues. That guy doesnt have the pieces to get Calvin from you.

Mathews and VJax arent worth it. I like them both, but they are not elite players.
