Trade advice for a veteran team

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade advice for a veteran team

Postby MacDaddy123 » Mon May 06, 2024 4:55 pm

This offer came in today, and has me chewing on it.

12 team SF TEP PPR Start 11
My team has an unusual build, as everyone was grabbing RB's/WR's and letting TE's and QB's fall in 2023 startup draft.
So I have Kelce, Andrews, Hockenson, and Musgrave at TE, and played them in Flexes last year when available. 0.5 TEP.

I just traded away Jordan Love, who was my QB3 + my 3rd for Tee Higgins + 1.05

Team:

QB: Mahomes/Kyler
RB: Kamara, Aaron Jones, Charbonnet, trash
WR: Higgins, Godwin, Kirk, trash
TE: Kelce, Andrews, Hockenson, Musgrave

The trade:

Give: Aaron Jones, 1.05, 1.08
Get: Baker (QB3), Mixon, Jacobs, Pittman

Last year I was competing until Andrews/Hockenson injuries, even with Aaron Jones missing most of the season.
This trade would give me more depth at QB, WR, and RB, but I lose out on youth.
It would give me a better shot to win in 2024, but could lead to a longer rebuild down the road too.
This trade would by no means lock me in as the favorite, but probably make me a top 4 team for sure.

If I take the 2 rookies (actually considering trading down to acquire more picks), I am middle of pack team in 2024

Thoughts?

What’s your full starting position requirements??

I actually think I’m leaning towards trading away the picks. Pittman is still young and I think only gets better…

Jacobs & Mixon give you depth at RB, Baker is a good QB3…

The likelyhood of Caleb or the big 3 WR falling to 5 in SF is slim…and with your TE depth you don’t need Bowers

Plus I personally would want Pittman over Odunze….

Without more details I’d easily accept this

It’s nice to get the young guys but with a competitive team, sometimes we gotta punt on the youth and go for it while we can and then start selling off parts at a later time to rebuild

I agree with this 99%.

The only thing holding me back is the economy in this particular league.
Most leagues selling off aging assets is a possibility, but this league seems to value youth/picks higher than any other league I have seen.
I also have one league which devalues draft picks more than any other league I have ever seen (I have nine 1sts in 24/25 in that league).

So what I am saying is, if I do this, and take the vets to go all in for 2024, there will be no sell off.
There are no buyers in this league for aging vets. One of the reasons I got such good value on vets in the 2023 startup.
Kelce in round 5 of TEP is unheard of in 2023, Aaron Jones in round 11, Kamara in round 12.
These are not pieces that anyone else really wants.

So I am not deceiving myself that I can sell off these aging assets for draft capital later on.
I will be riding all of these players into the graveyard, then starting a longer rebuild if I make this trade.
