The problem with Gesicki's PSU tape is that the speed from his Combine workout isn't on there.

Aside from the issue of Gesicki being too soft to be a traditional NFL TE, his play-speed doesn't match up with his workout. I daresay the other elements of his workout are evidenced on the PSU tape, but the difference in speed is glaring. Gesicki on tape and in pads looks like he runs a 4.7 rather than a 4.5.

I think the combine hype exceeded the reality for Gesicki. He looks like a decent TE but most take a while to really settle in.
I'm really against spending capital on TEs until they prove themselves in the NFL. I think it might be dynasty community's worst hitrate on types of players.

I agree, and I think it's a byproduct of how much more a non-fantasy skill (blocking) impacts a TE's ability to make an impact in the NFL. Running backs have to pass block too, but it's not as big a part of their job as TE blocking is.

It's been a while since this thread was posted in. We've seen him hit... then fall off this year because of the regime change and change in scheme. Do we think he will become anything this year, do we think we hold until he finds a new team next year, or is he done?

Yes, but week one is also exactly what the new coach said he'd do. Less time split wide, fewer routes run, and more blocking.
Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.

In rebuilds Gesicki is a buy for me when his value falls more. I'm hoping my Everett/Hurst shares hit and I can get Gesicki+a 2nd back.

Gesicki isn't done in dynasty. He's dead in Miami.

Yep. Before this year, his snap rate tight to the line was 12%, 55% in the slot and 30% out wide. Gesicki said this year is like learning a whole new position. He played week 3 of the preseason because, as he said, he need reps with all the blocking required as a true TE.

I don't expect him to be start worthy in fantasy this year and he may actually feel a roster clogger, but maybe he'll get a better opportunity when he hits FA. Such a shame for him to be tagged only to be used like this.

This is a Shanahan style offense. There will almost certainly be a TE with a lot of upside. Gesicki makes the most sense given his athleticism, but he will need to be a complete TE to gain that role. His size and athleticism should allow him to excel in this role, it will likely just take time.

Agreed, he is a great target for rebuilders IMO. I snagged him for cheap myself.

7 targets for Mike tonight… they actually trying to incorporate him into the offense, or showcasing him to try to trade him?
