To Trade or Not to Trade: Fournette

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

What should I do with Fournette (Team in signature)?

To Trade or Not to Trade: Fournette

Postby madtown27 » Thu Dec 16, 2021 3:43 pm

Hey everyone,

I took over a last place team last year and I'm not quite sure where to go with it. The team is the one in my signature. The team finished quite strong after a rough stretch of byes as I have some super strong pieces.

I acquired Fournette later in the season because I got him for a late 2nd and I'm pretty high on him. Figured I could at least trade him to a contender. I have a couple of them inquiring now and I'm not sure if I should hold him because I think he'll be really good next year or if I should sell him off. Wondering your thoughts on my possible options: Late 22 1st, random 23 1st, Henderson and a 2nd, Dobbins (I'm unsure about his injury and upside in Balt).

I'm considering keeping him because I have picks 3, 4 and 14 this year and two 1sts next year. But I just keep changing my mind on what I should do.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

With your core being younger, I would look in to a deal involving Dobbins and a pick if that is an option. A legit contender may pay up as Fournette looks like a very solid win now piece the rest of this season. Fournette may have a solid year again next year, but his age will start to decrease his value and if he has a slow year, his value will never recover. Now is a good time to sell if you are not contending for the right price.

I'm not sure if I can get a pick on top of Dobbins, but it is possible. Would you do it straight up?

Thanks all. I love Dobbins the player and I'm not usually scared to make trades, but something here has been holding me back on this one. His injury/that situation plus I think Lenny is generally underrated and has some years left in him. But I think you all are right.

Fournette for me too. I just don't get the Dobbins hype. He has not done much since being drafted. He is in an RBBC with not 1 but 2 other people (Gus and Lamar), he does not get the goal line touches. Lamar is more prone to run instead of choosing his check down option, he will be coming off a major injury and yet everybody seems to value Dobbins like he is a lock solid top 6 RB1.

I this high end RB2 is his ceiling.

Not sure why you’re calling it “hype” for Dobbins? It was all based on production as a rookie.

As a rookie he led the league in yards per carry (6.0), had 9 touchdowns and averaged 16.6 PPR points over the final 6 games last year, when Ravens finally began to increase his workload. And 8 of his 9 TDs came inside the 9 yard line (w/6 of them inside the 3), so he was very much a goal line back for them. You’re right he may be high end RB2 most if the time, but most definitely has RB1 upside (particularly in this RB climate we find ourselves in today) and with Lamar looking like he’s getting to the point where self preservation is of importance. I’m doubting he wants Huntley getting more run/pub than necessary doing things he hasn’t even done yet for franchise because he’s getting banged up running around more than he has to.

Besides, this question was also about who is best for this younger teams’ window to compete. Add that factor in and it’s really no brainer move when Dobbins is 3+ years younger at the RB position.

Give me Dobbins here. Oh, just realizing this is a week old. Hope you moved him, he's useless for a contender now.

Yeah, wish I responded a week ago. Definitely would have moved him for any of those options.

Did you end up moving Fournette?
