From what I read... the Rams saved 10m in real world cash that they would have had to pay for 2020 and 2021 if he was on the roster after the 3rd day in the league year. However, they incurred an additional 3.5 mil dead money cap hit in order to release him. I know the dead money is big..I don't know how it spreads over time.ItsHandsomeDave wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 2:30 am The Rams have major cap issues. They SAVED $10.5M in guarantees just by cutting him when they did. His initial contract was overcooked. Goffs, Donalds and Cooks contracts are also back breakers. I would not be surprised to see Cooks go too, and Clay Mathews was just cut. They handed out huge contracts to a guy with knee problems, a guy with concussion problems and a QB that hardly inspired much confidence last season. Donald is also 29.
As iffy as Gurleys health is, I dont think his performance last year can really be blamed purely on his health. The Rams were garbage down the stretch too.
Im seriously considering offers of late firsts in leagues where I am contending. Its a gamble but I cant see people trading him for a second, most would rather hold. Having him as an RB3 or flex would be worth a ton given his efficiency in the red zone and he is going to have those occasional big weeks if his knee is not completely shot.
I wouldn't make a large fantasy bet on any player a team took such a huge dead money hit for. No matter how bad his contract is... if saving 10m real world dollars outweighs having him on your team... gotta be something seriously wrong with his knees.
The pandemic is keeping teams from doing physicals. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Gurley ultimately fails his physical and ends up team less . Trade now while you can get anything.
