Seems fair.BradysBunch wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 12:31 pm I just started a new league with coworkers. I told them if they trade a future 1 or 2, they are responsible for that year. Hopefully it works.

Re: Trading future picks
I play in ones that do and don't but see this as maybe the best resolve ( I only have one of these). I know the rules going in so either way is fine with me and if I leave I don't expect the money back.WhatWouldDitkaDo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 16, 2019 8:12 am Compromise: require 50% of next year's dues in advance to trade away a 1st. That way the owner is more invested in sticking around, and in the unfortunate case of them needing to leave for whatever reason, the new owner only has to pay half for Year 1.
Re: Trading future picks
One of the leagues I play in that has a 3rd party Commish did a solid job easing towards paying up one year in advance.
First year, he charged dues + 50%. Second year, same thing. After two years, you were fully paid up a year in advance.
Now he just charges yearly dues, but the dues are actually paying for the next season. I like this for leagues I play in but don't know many of the other owners or commissioner.
In all of my friends leagues, we go by the honor system that if you are planning on leaving, you don't blow up your team and leave it in shambles. All of these friends leagues have been going for 5+ years. We also put in certain stipulations where if there is a new owner taking over a rough looking orphan, then you only pay 40% of that years dues UNLESS you make the playoffs. If you make the playoffs, you pay the remaining balance before the first round of playoffs. We've never had any major issues doing it this way.

Re: Trading future picks
I have this in every league I run. You absolutely need to have this in place. You can't take people at face value they wont trade away the future of a team and run away when it backfired. IF someone is willing to leverage the future of a team which affects the whole league, they should have no problem putting their money where their mouth is. Before any trading of future picks is processed in my leagues, that own will pay for whatever draft years they are trading. This is only considered for draft picks in the 1-3rd rounds.

Re: Trading future picks
Here are my bylaws and I use them in several leagues without problems. Feel free to copy them, I've already seen them on other peoples leagues so what the hell. See rule 15 for trading.

Re: Trading future picks
While *I* personally agree with the idea that it is and should be standard to pay up for any years asset involved in a trade, that doesn’t mean that’s necessarily the ultimate answer here.
What if all 11 of the owners are against it? And 5 wanna leave if it got enacted? Yeah sure the easy answer is ‘find another league’ but imo a good strong home league with rules that aren’t a million percent to your liking are much more fun than a league with perfect rules and settings, with strangers. To each their own, there.
My opinion here is to state your case. Show them this thread. Then take a vote and go with the majority.

Re: Trading future picks
100% of dues for any year you are trading a 1st round pick for. When you trade a future first you are committing to managing the team through that year in my opinion.
