Ur talking about Ridley right? Well, for being under 190 lbs, he is not extremely fast. Of course his routes are 'crisp', he has had 3 extra years to hone his route running.
I've just read through the whole thread and have seen a few times this 3 extra years argument. Could you elaborate here? As far as I can tell he was in high school until age 20. I'm not certain he is getting any professional coaching and high level training before he was 20 and went to Bama. But maybe I'm wrong. Otherwise I'd say his age is not too related to his skill level.

Jon Moore has done a ton of research over at rotoviz on age adjusted production with his phenom index. It reveals that players that break out at a young age have a much higher probability of hitting at the nfl level. This is a great article as well: https://www.playerprofiler.com/article/ ... s-metrics/

Ridley could be fine, but his breakout age suggests that his ceiling is extremely capped.

I understand the breakout age thing but I don't have access to the rotoviz articles where they define breakout age. I suspect that the player population this analysis was based on has very few 20 yr old true freshman. Which is why I am not sure how to factor in breakout age here.

Certainly the physical component plays a role with age. But also there must be an experience component - the more high level training and coaching the more likely they are to be successful. And older players generally have more experience, but maybe not in this case. Thus my pondering is it fair to use Ridleys age to the same extent we might for other prospects.

The people who bashed him brought up his combine metrics and age. It's his awareness and football savvy that make him awesome. His third touchdown became a scramble drill. Ridley stopped his route and reversed field, ran parallel to Ryan in the back of the endzone for the TD.

Thus ends the buy-low window. Ridley is a great football player.

Never had the opportunity to get Ridley.
He went 1.05 in league one and then 1.06 in my Superflex.

Those Ridley drafters knew what they were doing I guess.

I remember the day like it was yesterday, I was there pondering if I should draft Ronald at 1.4. I wasn't amazed by him but some of his highlights were impressive and the consensus was to take him in that range.

But then, like a sign from heaven, a league mate of mine guided by his own misfortune and determined to continue into his 4th consecutive losing season offered me his 1.8 and 1.12 for the 1.4. Blinded by confidence he snatched up Ronald Jones not seconds following the acceptance of the trade. As for me, I was stuck with selecting the undersized Calvin Ridley and the running back going to a team that had no produced a 100 year rushing in 5 years, as my leaguemate repeatedly reminded me.

Watching these moral victories come to fruition are why I love fantasy.

Ridley was probably one of the easier calls of this class. I don't see #1 receiver upside, but WRs who run routes and create separation at a high level are usually going to translate to some degree. Ridley was the best route runner of this class by a good bit. He'll feast on #2 coverage opposite Julio.
