Re: Winston or Mariota?
I'm surprised to see this tied. I'll admit I don't know a ton about these guys but it seems like Mariota is a poor mans Andrew Luck whereas Winston is like a Cam type player with Johnny Football like maturity issues.

Re: Winston or Mariota?
I'd liken Mariota to Kaep before Luck. I think Winston is much more talented across the board but Mariota's clean off the field and has the higher floor IMO.Jimmy Jones wrote:I'm surprised to see this tied. Re: Winston or Mariota?
Took the chance on Winston last year in a devy draft. He's more talented imo. Unfortunately he'll screw it up at this rate. I'll take that chance. Well already did and am sticker to it.. worried but don't regret that decision

Re: Winston or Mariota?
I would take Mariota before Winston.
Quarterbacks need to be top 5 or 6 in the NFL, otherwise they aren't worth much. Mariota can be that if he lands in the right situation. Winston can do that if he becomes a different person.

Re: Winston or Mariota?
Winston and it's not even close. Mariota may have a Fantasy relevance due to his legs and the type of Offense he ends up in, but as an NFL style QB Winston blows him out of the water. Watch a Mariota game, all WR are so wide open, no anticipation throws at all, 1 read and run type of style. I think he has great mechanics and stuff but has a long ways to go in the mind and mental area. Winston is far superior in reading defenses checking down and making anticipation throws. If you are thinking Mariota is better it is only because of Winstons off the field antics (Which I can't blame you) but on the field as an NFL QB it's Jamies, not a doubt!

Winston could be there in the 5th round and I'd rather take a backup kicker. I will never have him on my team.

Well that's a bit extreme. I'd imagine he's goes somewhere between 1.02 and 1.04 in superflex leagues.vflgladiators wrote:Winston could be there in the 5th round and I'd rather take a backup kicker. I will never have him on my team.

Re: Winston or Mariota?
For fantasy I'll take the better talent with "character issues." I've been on both sides of losing players to off field issues and imo I'd rather have the risk and upside.

This could be the bias speaking from the fact that I am a Florida Gator grad student. But either way Mariota for me pretty easily.Jimmy Jones wrote:Well that's a bit extreme. Re: Winston or Mariota?
I love Mariota, but Winston for me if I had to choose 1 for MY team. I didn't like Winston a year ago but the dude continues to gut out wins and play well with crazy pressure. He just doesn't break, and to me this is one of the biggest qualities of QB's. He keeps his poise.

Re: Winston or Mariota?
Winston looks like his game will translate better to the pros, plus he's been doing very well in a pro-style offense. I won't blame people for taking Mariota given Winston's off-field concerns and his character, but Mariota doesn't seem like a very strong pocket passer.

Re: Winston or Mariota?
Winston makes NFL throws all game. He stands tall in the pocket, goes through his reads. Although his intermediate passes get jumped by LB's too often.
Mariota rarely makes difficult NFL throws. He leaves the pocket for no reason.

Nice weed-smoking gesture before the game, Jameis. What a knucklehead.
