Sammie Coates Opinions

Wanted to know the boards thoughts on Sammie Coates.

6'2 201 44Rec-902yds-7td (21.5 avg) sophomore

Ranked 25 in DLF's composite Devy Rankings

He has started to get some buzz topping Fieldman freak lists. He strength coach has stated he consistently runs sub 4.3. I know these hand times are routinely faster than electronic ones but his speed shows up on little tape I have been able to watch (His catch avg and avg td length. Also authored one of the nastiest stiff arms ever against Texas A&M. The little bit I have watched of him Cordarrelle Patterson flashed in my head as a comp. Am I crazy or does anyone else have high hopes for this player.

Also where do you all go for college tape?

Thanks

Cameron

Coates is my #4 WR. He's somewhere between Sammy Watkins and Torrey Smith.

For watching tape I use DraftBreakdown.com quite a bit: http://draftbreakdown.com/
It can be an excellent resource for the higher profile players.

Sammie is definitely on the radar and looks like a very solid prospect. The only aspect of his profile that currently has me concerned is his development rate. He didn't play at all as a freshman (red-shirted), and barely did anything in his second year. He was the dominant receiver at Auburn last year and that looks good. Let's see if he can improve upon that in his 4th season.

Thanks guys

He just looks pretty dangerous with the ball in his hands. I like the Torrey Smith/Sammy Watkins range comparison. I think he could blow up this year production wise and if his measurables and athletic times hold up he will fly up draft boards if he comes out.

Also I believe he redshirted due injury his freshman year and his RS/FR year was a dumpster fire especially on offense so I don't hold that to much against him.

He's a beast just waiting to be unleashed. If he wasn't in such a run heavy offense, I think he'd be making a case for WR#1 over Amari Cooper.

Some would argue that he might not even be the best WR on his own team. That's not meant as a knock on him, but a lot of people like D'haquille Williams better in terms of ceiling.

I like where you heads at. I think if he improves on his stats, matures as a WR over the season, and tests any where near his rumored measurables I can see him being a top 20 pick.

I'm intrigued by him I wonder if he can go the C. Patterson route single season in the SEC and bolt to the NFL as a high draft pick.

So far, it's looking promising.

There was talk of him trying NFL this year like Courtney Gardner but he made the right choice. He's always been WAY behind academically so my assumption is he's one and done.

He was in the same HS class as Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham. All Louisiana HS scouting analysts agreed that Williams was hands down the best WR in Louisiana that year and most likely the best player overall. That class also included Jeremy Hill, Lael Collins, Greg Robinson, Anthony Freak Johnson, Trai Turner, Kenny Hilliard off the top of my head...

This is where I'm at, but I'm reserving judgement on Coates until he gets a rhythm going this season.

He torched LSU tonight. Definitely a big time deep threat.

Good to see him getting on track. Hes been banged up a bit. He and Willoams will be very good in the nfl.
