1.1 in a Superflex

Postby jwhite85 » Fri Jun 20, 2014 6:57 am

Who are you guys taking with the 1.1 in a superflex league? On the other hand what would it take to get the 1.1 from you in that format, specifically what QBs would you take straight up for the pick?

I play in a superflex and 2QB league and in both leagues Watkins went with 1.01.

How about in startup? Who's your #1 overall in a startup?

Rodgers followed by Luck. In a rookie draft, Manziel followed by Teddy.

In a startup i agree with Rodgers and Luck at the top. I'd take Stafford fairly early as well.

You can follow along our rookie draft, in the USFL Superflex. 11 of 12 managers are members of this forum.
Wow, Johnny Football @ 1.12, Bridgewater @ 2.3, & Bortles @ 2.9? If they fall like that in mine I'll be sitting pretty.

A couple things to note about this league:

1. QB scoring is lower: 0.035/pyd; -3/INT; -5/pick-6 (the interceptions are likely to hurt young QBs in particular)
2. It's a cap/contract league. The maximum time to keep a player under contract is six years.

Indeed, it's not a typical scoring setup... The idea was to lower the floor on QBs, and INTs is the vehicle to achieve that, IMHO. Especially for tier 2 and tier 3 QBs, who usually play a big part in Superflex leagues.

I'm curious as to why you would have Luck over Rodgers...?

First QB in my league was Manziel at 4, then Bridgewater 12, Bortles 16, Carr 25.

I took Rodgers 1.1 in a superflex a few years ago... and won the first year
I'd probably take Rodgers or Luck with that pick today

It boggles my mind that people don't understand this. QB's are extremely difficult to replace in 2QB/SF leagues so youth plays a huge part. Imagine a league where you only start 1WR. You're going Calvin automatically since he puts up the most points, has about 5 years left, and can be replaced by someone pretty good by the time he's gone. Your WR2 to replace him is someone like Randall Cobb or Victor Cruz, and a guy like Sammy Watkins could probably drafted at the end of the first round, maybe even second round. In a league where you start 3/4 of them, the demand goes through the roof and suddenly half the community would rather have an extra 5 years of slightly lower production from AJG. The position becomes a lot harder to replace because once That guy is gone, you're replacing him with you're 5th best WR and picking guys like Brandon Lafell off waivers. You have to draft Sammy Watkins and Mike Evans at 1 and 2. In 1QB leagues, when Rodgers is gone, you insert your second QB, a guy like Rivers, Dalton or Roethlesberger. You can draft Johnny/Teddy at the end of the second or Bortles in the 3rd. A rookie WR who puts up WR3 numbers hus rookie year like NUK will fetch you a QB1. In 2QB leagues, when Rodgers hangs them up, you inserts your 3rd QB. A guy like Jake Locker or EJ Manuel. NUK Hopkins will get you Sam Bradford if you're lucky. You end up needing to earn the 1.01 or 1.02 to draft Johnny/Teddy, which you will because years of winning have kept you out of the range of picks needed to grab a legitimate QB1 replacement and now your team sucks. In a 2QB league, you can't beat 15 years of potential QB1 value with a high end QB2 floor. Don't get me wrong, Rodgers is great, possibly even the best choice over Luck, but these are the arguments for Luck's case. QB rankings are very very different in 1 vs 2 QB leagues.
