Shane Vereen or 2014 1.7? PPR

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Shane Vereen or 2014 1.7? PPR

Postby hamburglar » Tue Feb 25, 2014 7:12 pm

I'm thinking Vereen, easy, but I dont really know much about this draft class other than it's WR heavy.

I'd rather have Vereen and wouldn't give it much 2nd thought.

I think it depends on how you value Vereen.

This trade is pretty close either way.
I mean some people know how the guys in front of them will draft. There are quite a few pretty elite safe players in the draft. Odds of you landing one at 1.07 can happen.

I like Vereen. But depending on my team I would consider swapping for the pick.

TEAM 3:10 MAN PPR (2 QUARTERBACK LEAGUE took over orphan 2016) Dynasty League

Wow.. I'm surprised by the bolded statement. I can sort of maybe possibly understand someone saying there's 1 pretty elite safe player in the draft. Maybe.... But quite a few? Just wondering who else is considered 'pretty elite'. Maybe I sold my draft picks for pennies!

In Ppr scoring I'll side with the Vereen side easily. At this point there are too many unknowns about the 1.07. Yes it is a deep draft. Yes the combine just got over and many may have an increasing case of rookie fever. In reality - You could likely land the 2nd - 3rd best rb (if that is what you want), or the 4-5th best wr for that matter.

Vereen is young (24)and is ppr gold when healthy. He will likely always be part of a rbbc but that is ok as well. He will likely be a bit streaky and slightly unpredictable from week to week. He has had a few health issues, but I'd say most of them (wrist and ankle I think) are flukey, and on the not so serious side and calling him injury prone - I think is incorrect. I saw a comparison on the home page of Vereen to D.Mcfadden and that comparison is straight up $@#% and it is comparisons like that that are misleading to many. He hasn't had any severe concussions that I'm aware of, hasn't torn an Achilles, hasn't had a microfracture knee surgery, a pateller tendon, nor has he had any major knee (acl) surgeries that I'm aware of. Heck, he's had a groin issue, a couple ankle sprains, and a broken wrist. Please tell my how that compares to D.Mcfadden. I think Vereen is tough (34 reps on the bench at his combine!) and if given more of an opportunity - has a very legit shot at low end rb1 numbers in ppr. (Meaning top 12 in scoring of ALL rbs in the league). The single thing I don't like about Vereen is his coach, Belichick, cant trust his use of rbs at all. Vereen would be a top 5 rb if he were on a few other teams imo.

Despite playing just six games last year, though, the 24-year-old Vereen entered Week 16 with 43 receptions and 381 receiving yards as Brady's favorite weapon out of the backfield.

After lighting up the Cleveland Browns for 12 catches and 153 yards in Week 14, we realized he was becoming a focal point of defenses. Which explains why Blount did so well. Who the hell saw that coming? That is what Belichick does... Skill wise - Vereen is the top rb to own in N.E. and it isn't close.

S.Vereen >>> 1.07 2014 rookie pick. Imo.

Last year he played in 6 games total, and put up over 40 receptions for nearly 400 yds. I hate extrapolating stats but think about it... if he is healthy and is used, (which I know isn't a guarantee but HEY - it isn't a guarantee for anyone in the NfL) - He'd likely put up 70 plus receptions and 7-900 yds receiving- and that is in the receiving game alone. He ran the ball 4o ish times for slightly over 200 yds averaging 4.9 yds per tote. So - no - I wouldn't trade him for a 1.07 rookie pick. I think that is ludicrous that some would advocate moving him for that in a ppr league. To each their own though. I'd gladly give the 1.07 for him though.
