After the CMC injury, one would think that he should be a no-brain must-start player ROS. But....
- Mason doesn't get more than 2 targets a game for PPR compared to CMC who returned and immediately received 7 targets
- Guerendo gets RZ carries over Mason, opportunities he takes advantage of with a TD and puts him in the spotlight while only 4 carries
- at the 1-yard line Shanahan gave Juszczyk the ball which he fumbled. The guy didn't get a carry since week 8, but at the 1-yard line Shanahan thought not to give the best RB with 6 yards avg the ball
- The same happened against the Cardinals in week 5, 1-yard line, not running with Mason, Shanahan opted to run an empty backfield pass play where Purdy got sacked at the 30-yard line
I dont know what happened after their 2-2 start after week 4, but Mason never received 20 carries anymore. He injured his shoulder in the Seahawks game and after the bye, CMC returned. The explanation is obvious as to why he didnt since week 6. But to me in week 5 Shanahan tried to move off of Mason as being a bellcow back.
Yesterday, to me, was yet another prime example as to why he just wont let Mason be the Bellcow guy, and im scared for the ROS to start, seeing him run efficiently, even having the most carries, but the points like targets or TDs go to everyone else in that backfield. Heck, it surprises me that Shanahan hasn't used Deebo as a RB yet.
I doubt him as a starter right now which was unheard of at the start of the season, and I might consider starting Warren over him who has a very consistent floor considering he is involved in the passing game. Thoughts?
