Safe to trade for Pickens now? (Will Steelers add another WR?)

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Safe to trade for Pickens now? (Will Steelers add another WR?)

Postby Randomguess » Fri May 24, 2024 6:40 am

12 team league, 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 non QB flex, for team 1 below. Related to previous posts, but I wanted some input on Pickens and the Steelers WR room and offense in general. First, do you view Pickens as a buy? He's the team's #1 right now and if that remains the case, I think he's a buy given opportunity and QB upgrade. However, I'm a little nervous that the Steelers trade for someone that immediately becomes a threat to Pickens target share. I know Deebo, Aiyuk and DK were all rumored at some point this offseason already. They drafted Roman Wilson but I don't view him as a big threat to Pickens. Would you wait to acquire Pickens (if you view him as a buy), or get him now? Arthur Smith as OC isn't ideal for WRs, but I still think Pickens could produce solid numbers, if he's the #1.

The deal that I'm considering is offering Andrews and either Spears or some mid round picks for Pickens, Pacheco and Geno Smith (just so I have a slightly better backup QB). The other owner has no TEs and no significant draft capital.
Team 1:
QB: Stroud, Geno, Minshew
RB: Bijan, ETN, R White, Z White, Pacheco
WR: Lamb, Nakua, Olave, Dell, Pickens, Shakir, Iosivas, Burks
TE: Laporta, Andrews
2024 picks: 1.01, 1.02
2025 two 1sts

Team 2:
QB: Lawrence, Stafford
RB: Hall, Taylor, Z White, Javonte Williams, Dobbins
WR: Chase, Lamb, Kupp, Deebo, DK, Ridley, Addison
TE: Laporta, Andrews
2024 picks: 1.10, 2.12, 3.10, 4.10

I think Pickens is a good investment right now. Especially for that price.

RB: Jonathan Taylor, Kyren Williams, Devon Achane, Derrick Henry, Jaylen Warren
WR: CeeDee Lamb, DJ Moore, DK Metcalf, Drake London, Tee Higgins, Hollywood Brown, Ricky Pearsall
TE: George Kittle, Brock Bowers, Pat Freiermuth

I’m not a Pickens guy and think he is wildly overvalued based on the trades I’ve seen go down. Sure, he got a “qb upgrade”, but his QBs are still bad (their former teams just dropped them or traded them away for nothing). I also don’t belive he has the ceiling some think

I completely agree his new QBs are still terrible. This is not a move I need to make, but just seeing if the value is there and it makes sense for my team. I am undecided on Andrews. I still think he is the 1A passing option on that team with Flowers being 1B, with Andrews being the clear red zone preference when throwing. As far as Pickens goes, I've seen the box scores but haven't watched him play enough to confidently say he will be great or won't be or is very overvalued.

I think you're undervaluing Pacheco in that deal. I don't think it gets accepted the way you lay it out.

Pickens = Andrews
Pacheco >>> Spears
Not to mention Geno

Note: I'm a Spears truther!

You may/(probably are) be correct. I am hoping his glaring need for a TE will help give me leverage in this deal. I don't really want to give up Spears, but I trust Pacheco a lot more to succeed this year. I'm also not sold on giving up Andrews at this point and may trade back from 1.04 instead of taking Bowers.

For my team, would you hold Andrews? Or is there someone else in particular you would pursue?

id hit them up about their interest in an andrews pickens+ type deal and go from there.

im absurdly high on pickens and have been and continue to be baffled as to his low valuation and people being so unsure of him. hes a screaming buy and someone i own a ton of and continue to buy more.

make it make sense that a dude is a 2nd year player, 22 years old, 2nd round draft capital to a team that is known for finding great wrs and having awesome developmental skills, has to deal with a trio of qbs changing every few weeks all of whom are backup qbs (russ went from starter to starter hate him or love him), catches 5 of the teams 13 total passing tds, comes in 16th in THE ENTIRE NFL IN RECIEVING YARDS (remember that horrible qb trio we just discussed, they passed for a total of 3421, of which pickens had 1140), and then goes in startups in the pick 55-70 range as the WR22.

we love exciting alpha build wrs with huge target share and big play upside...but not if their name is george pickens for some reason.

So if the other owner is willing to accept Andrews and Spears, would you make the move for Pacheco, Pickens and Geno? Or would you still hold onto Andrews, regardless?
