Continue building or push in the chips?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Continue building or push in the chips?

Postby PPE82 » Sun Mar 31, 2024 7:20 am

Team 2, been in a multi year rebuild. I feel like if I start buying some RBs, I would have a legit shot to compete this year.

Thoughts on team strategy in general? How to use my 5 1st rounders this year?

For added context, there is a team in my league that is entering a fresh rebuild and is looking to dump several productive vet RBs (Henry, Mixon, Kamara, Chubb), so I would have an obvious trade partner.

One more detail: 1.01 has indicated he plans to go with MHJ, so CW would be available at 1.02. I believe he is telling me the truth.

Question:

Do you really have the roster room to add all these 2024 picks? If not I would start to consolidate them to bump up to better picks. A few 3s for a 2nd or something.

Also definitely grab one (or both) of the top 2 RBs towards the back 1.11 or so. You never know if they will hit big from a usage rate.

I do, yes. But I do plan to explore that.

Think hold my 1sts and take BPA?

Your early 1sts just stick with the program. CW, BPA, BPA, BPA likely WRs and/or TEs. If another QB falls, you may need to trade back, no point in adding Maye or Daniels on top of CW, Lawrence, and Richardson (and BY) IMO. 1.09 and 1.11 could be the top 2 RBs, depending on landing spots. I'm open to moving picks for RBs, but none of those 1sts for aging RBs... just doesn't make sense to me to add a 1yr rental.

What about 2-3 of those aging RBs for one of my late 1sts?

It would take a lot of moves to flip to contender but you have the overall team equity for sure. Probably depends on the league.
1. Is it active?
2. Are teams willing to rebuild/trade high scoring players at reasonable value?

Hard to go but that first older player without knowing you can make multiple moves. I’m likely sticking with the plan with this team but definitely shopping some picks if you can buy young studs.

If I could land Henry and Mixon for a single late 1st or a late 1st and a couple 3rds, I'd consider that for sure. Would instantly make your RB room viable, and you'd still have several early 1sts to keep building with youth/upside at key positions.

^This.

Team is laughably shallow TC, you don't have a choice but to continue building.

Right now you only have one startable QB, one startable TE, and no startable running backs. You also got some 4th string QBs and guys that are retired taking up space on your roster. :wtf:

I'd be looking to add Williams, Bowers, and any remaining WRs with 1st NFL draft capital in the first and then attacking running back heavy.

I wouldn't spend 1st rounders on aging running backs that may not even be FF RB1s by the time the season is over.
- Kamara looked pretty washed and there were reports/coachspeak of his reps being throttled back to keep him fresh.
- Henry will have to split the backfield with Lamar, Mitchell (once he's back) and whoever else the Ravens bring in
- Mixon might be viable for another two years or so
- Chubb is coming off another season-ending knee injury and there were rumors of him being eased back as well

IDK about you but none of those guys sound like FF assets I'm trying to acquire.

If the 1.01 in his league does as is expected his QB room consists of Williams, Lawrence, Richardson, and Young.

There's 4 starting QB's right there.

RB is a deficiency, but that's the easiest position to fill in FF. I'd stick with BPA after grabbing Williams, and that likely means you end up with several promising young WR's to add to the solid start of Wilson, Nacua, and Flowers. Possibly Bowers thrown in as well if you want to grab him at 1.05-1.07.

There aren't any RB's in this year's class that I'd spend a 1st rounder on at present. Maybe that changes with capital/landing spot but it's TBD until April. 2025 should be a better year to draft at the position, but if you really want to take a shot on a rookie, 1.11 isn't a terrible place to do it. Or, maybe you use 1.11 to get Mixon and a little something else. He should be secure as a starter in Houston for a couple seasons based on his contract, though his efficiency has dipped.

If you end up hitting on some WR's you could always look to cash out on one to help you at RB and should still be strong at the position. QB and WR are the positions I hammer until I've got them settled in rebuild. Then I worry about RB's and TE's. I'd stay the course, and not give a lot of capital for RB's. Such a short shelf life, I like to make sure I'm set elsewhere before prioritizing RB. But that's just me. Good luck!
