Just took over an orphan.. ideas?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Just took over an orphan.. ideas?

Postby WOATjohn » Thu Mar 28, 2024 10:21 am

SF/TEP
I am bored so I bought a discounted orphan team. I have zero shares of Stroud and as a OSU homer I wanted a share, so I bought this team because of him lol.

Core players:
QB: Stroud, Cousins
RB: CMC, Kamara
WR: Hill, Doubs, Jeudy
1.03, 2.03, 3.03, 4.03
The rest suck..

I instantly put everyone on the block except for Stroud and my picks.

What are some values that I should expect for studs like CMC, Hill and lesser Cousins and Kamara?

I guess what are your short term goals with this team? Are you trying to make a run this year or retool it by selling veterans for picks and/or youth?

This team is extremely top heavy with no depth or end of the lineup pieces so I don’t think it can really compete but I also don’t want to just give away these players.

Just thinking out loud, but I wonder if some of your league mates would value some of these vets at say 1.06 (ish) or lower for 2024 picks? In that case, maybe looking for 2025 picks would be preferable.

Of course, if you start seeing some offers like 1.01, 1.02, etc., then maybe we can collectively help weigh those offers. I'm assuming though that the 1.01 and 1.02 guys are rebuilding teams as well with less use for older (ish) studs?

Ultimately, these studs you mention are very studly indeed; but maybe would fetch more in season to a contender.

Edit: I don't know, that team could be fun to watch also. I mean...I've seen a lot worse. Tell us more about these end of bench pieces...

I’ve been in this position before and unfortunately you probably won’t get very good value for the veterans in 2024 picks unless from maybe a couple of the top contending owners. You will get better value for them closer to when the season starts. I would be patient to maximize value

Your thinking is exactly where I’m at which is why I wanted other views. With it having Hill and CMC they could be game changers and really lift up a weaker lineup.
I have offered and been declined the following:
Hill for 1.04…. He actually has a pretty good team too
Hill for 1.06…. He said he wants youth
CMC for 1.06 and Levi’s… see above plus he said levis>CMC

I then was offered a terrible deal for Hill that I didn’t even make a counter

I have been thinking that maybe I should trade back from the 1.03 or target vets from this dude that thinks Levis>CMC

I wouldn't even know how to respond to the bolded part, lol. I'll admit I've never played in a SF league...but that is a stretch yeah?

Maybe once these guys get off to a hot start they'll fetch more in season, assuming you'd be cool at that point to recoup 2025 picks. Because wow, it sounds like Rookie fever is strong in this league.

Yeah I may just be better trading these studs for some injured players and future picks during the season… unless I get to a hot start and could make a change

Would the guy with the 1.04 have a 2nd he would be able to add to CMC? You may need to take a little hit to get into the draft more, but I would personally be aiming to sell CMC for either one of the QBs or WRs from this draft, and then use the likes of Tyreek, etc, to get future 2025 picks. Unfortunately when Hill came out and said he is likely done once his contract is up he really didn't help us with his value.
