Aiyuk feels like the forgotten rookie this year so think it would be interesting to give him his own thread.

I've been incredibly impressed by him so far, albeit I was a big fan pre-draft so there's probably some bias.

Brandon Aiyuk
Age: 22 years old
Size: 5'11/205
SPARQ: 89th percentile
Draft Capital: 1.25
Production: 32 targets, 20/280/1, 4/69/2
Production Pace: 85 targets, 53/930/8

Looks incredibly dynamic and the production so far has been very impressive. Think the offense has held him back a little overall with the emphasis on short passes but I trust Shanahan to build a productive offense longterm. Also think he offers something that Deebo does not - more of a downfield threat and a traditional outside WR.

As a 9er fan I can say they scheme 1-2 bombs for him a game which is great to see. JimmyG missed a huge one on National tv vs the Rams.

He was a must acquire for me predraft and I like what I see so far. He has obvious, standout athleticism that pops on screen and positional skill to match. He has building chemistry with Jimmy G and is establishing himself as a key component of the offense. I don’t think we’ve seen his best yet either, I think it’s just a matter of time before we see a long TD or two. He can provide a downfield element to the game that SF is lacking.

Should've been a long TD yesterday if Jimmy G didn't lead him out of bounds on the 35yd catch

I like Aiyuk, but I’m of the opinion that all players not named “Kittle” are borderline un-startable on the 49ers ... I may be bitter b/c I was burned by McKinnon this weekend, but they are a nightmare week-in & week-out.

I was forced to fire him up this week and I'll continue do so with Deebo now out of the lineup

He doesn't need to be a solid start today, as a rookie, to be a valuable dynasty WR. Also any week that Deebo is out, Aiyuk is probably a solid WR2 play.

Behold, the JimmyG generator is complete!

Whatever QB SF drafts next year, I'm buying.

Oh come on man! We can't give up on Jimmy G! He's getting better!

It's very low hanging fruit... but I really do think Kyle Shanahan knows that the QB of his future... is not currently on the roster.

Here is what the top rookie WRs are currently on pace for:
CLamb - 82/1,136/4
JJefferson - 74/1,432/8
JJeudy - 50/762/2
BAiyuk - 53/930/8
THiggins - 61/937/6
LShenault - 66/864/2
HRuggs - 32/848/4
CClaypool - 48/994/16

Besides from Lamb and Jefferson who are in their own production tier right now, Aiyuk is performing just as well as any other rookie WR yet doesn't receive nearly the same attention/hype as guys like Higgins and Claypool.

Sure there are some concerns about the offense but he may have a 1,000yd rookie season in the same offense everyone is so worried about and his breakout game last week came while Deebo was playing.

Yep. There are many factors at play for why Aiyuk is not a hyped guy:

1. Aiyuk’s college career - from JUCO to ASU, he was never on anyone’s radar. Nobody ever watched him play since he was on a random college team that starts their games at 1am eastern time. Also, many wrote him off pre-draft because of his “analytical profile.”

2. Negative 49ers stigma - “Run first team” and “Kittle will ALWAYS be the #1” is the common narrative. There is a perception that he has no opportunity to produce.

3. Irrational Deebo love - People have an irrational love for Deebo based off his cool sounding name and his physicality. He had a nice stretch run last year for a rookie on a highly publicized team that brought him a lot of attention, however, he is not without his faults. People overlook his stone hands, his lack of route running, his injury history, and his average depth of target. He’s a nice player, but he’s not a go-to target and never will be. He’s a complementary piece.

Aiyuk is just going to be one of those guys that is overlooked until the value becomes undeniable.

100%

I'd say another reason for the muted hype is that a lot of people were high on Deebo Samuel coming into this year and Kittle + Deebo + Aiyuk would be a tall order for this offense to support.

But it looks like Aiyuk is the guy over Deebo (Who has looked more like a screen game WR) so far.
