Postby Ruggenater » Mon Jan 08, 2024 6:38 am

Two head coaches officially relieved of their duties so far following the week 18 games: Arthur Smith    and Ron Rivera. Hopefully the former can lead to some sensible usage for London, Pitts and Bijan next year.

He is atleast posturing that he will be an expensive hire. Not sure how that will factor in

That's the dream and then sign Cousins for 2-3 years. But, I think he chooses Herbert over Pitts/London/Bijan if given the choice. Gets a high draft pick and potential outs with MWilliams and KA plus reset at RB. Gets to build the offense the way he wants with the players he wants.

Atlanta is a great situation.

- Above-average offensive line
- Elite skill position talent, who have been criminally underused
- The worst division in football that can be taken over quickly
- One of the most improved defenses in football
- #8 overall pick
- A ton of cap space going forward

If Ben Johnson goes there and they sign Cousins or draft a QB at 8, it's going to be fireworks.

That said, I could see a team like Washington giving him more autonomy and money. And obviously, LA has Herbert.

Commanders have reportedly requested interviews with both Lions coordinators, Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.

Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer was fired Monday, Jan. 8."

More fallout, scapegoating for the Bryce Young Experience?

Yeah, with all the Stroud rumors immediately after they traded up, I’m becoming more and more convinced the owner overruled everyone. But who knows, we’ll never know.

Adding on to this to say the inverse - the other option of the Chargers being superior as it was suggested by someone else is kinda laughable if you zoom out even slightly.

After the Herbert / LA weather factors, it's all pretty grim:

- Stuck in the same Division as Mahomes for the next decade+
- One of the worst ownership groups in the NFL
- Team training facilities / Nutrition / Doctors are sub-par or even non-existent according to the players (see point above)
- Offensive weapons around Herbert are aging out, and are poorly matched to Herberts skillset outside of Allen (who will be 32)
- Zero fans, 2nd fiddle team in your own town in a city that doesn't care

There is a LOT of work to be done here in Charger land.

Most coaches know that you only get one good shot at being a HC. For Ben Johnson, reportedly, he is extremely invested in stability for his young family as one of the key priorities.

In other words, he wants to get the best job possible, and keep it... ie. be judicious with his talents, and pick the best football organisation / situation.

It's going to be fascinating to watch.
