This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Lamar Jackson Trade

Postby badbuddah » Thu Dec 14, 2023 4:54 pm

Hi all,

12 team 1QB PPR league, other owner who will likely finish between 3rd-5th at worst, possibly higher if lucky, has offered Chris Godwin, a 2024 2nd (likely late), 2025 2nd, and a 2024 3rd for my Lamar Jackson. Is this enough in a 1 QB league? I am in a complete rebuild and would have to draft a QB. I already own his first which I got for Davante earlier in the year.
12 Team UNLIMITED Keeper / 23 Roster 1.0-PPR: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 WR/RB/TE, 1 K, 1 DEF 2 IR - 11th Year

RB: Aaron Jones, D'Ernest Johnson, E. Mitchell, Dalvin Cook, Jamaal Williams, Alexander Mattison, K. Miller, P. Taylor
WR: R. Doubs, G. Pickens, Christian Kirk, Juju, D. Hopkins, D. Wicks, K. Boutte
TE: Z. Ertz, C. Okonkwo, Trey McBride, Tucker Kraft

I think Godwin could bounce back, but the return here is not super exciting currently. Are all TDs worth six points?

No passing TD's are 4 only.

It's not a terrible trade, but it seems like he's chosen you to help create a strong starting roster. The Adams for late 1st was an okay return on value for a rebuild. Now he's back for a double-dip.

The 4pt passing TDs takes a little value away from QBs, but even with that, Lamar remains a T5QB. His value among non-QBs takes a hit, but he's probably still a T5QB in your league.

So I look at it as what are you receiving in return for giving up a T5QB? WR38 on the year so far. Two late 2nds and a late 3rd, with one of those picks being two years away.

I see three problems with this trade.
1) You're simply not getting much value in return for a T5QB. Even if Godwin improves ten spots, you get a middle-aged (for NFL WRs) high end WR3.
2) You're helping the other guy, on the cheap, amass top talent at different positions. That would be fine if you were getting good value in return, but this offer is not-terrible-but-not-very-good.
3) As this guy incrementally strengthens his team, he earns better records and pushes the picks he's sending you further and further back.

I'm with Ant - nothing about the pieces coming back is compelling. While QB is fairly unimportant in 1QB, you still need one. I'm not selling Jackson for this.

That makes it closer, but I would still lean holding here.
