I guess put me in the minority, then? I think a lot of us had our concerns about his size, and about the Panthers roster with no clear weapons post DJM - but in general, back on "Day 1" we were still impressed with Bryce the prospect, an elite decision maker with a good arm and good leadership intangibles. Some of us were also hopeful that the OL play from 2022 was going to be something that carried over (rather than regressed majorly).

Perhaps you have those "Day 1" receipts, but this kind of thing sounds like revisionist rhetoric - at least to me, anyway.

There was a reason CJ Stroud was frequently going 1.05-1.06 in everyone's SF drafts. It wasn't just Carolina that missed.

Plenty of film guys had Stroud ahead of Bryce as a prospect.

Some hot take artists went as far as to call Bryce a likely bust citing that the way he won in college (elusiveness and ad libbing) would not translate well to the NFL and that he wasn’t accurate enough to make up for it as a pocket passer.

He was my number 1 as an NFL QB so I’m not claiming any prescience here but there were definitely guys that preferred Stroud by a large margin pre draft

So did analytics guys.

As well as some of the biggest "big media" draft guys. Todd McShay, and Mel Kiper. Mcshay went so far as to say, "if I'm a GM, I'm scared to death to draft him."

I still think there's a pretty big leap from "I'm scared to death to draft him" to "this was a disaster on day one, and everyone knew it".

If anything, those concerns were on his longevity at his size - not on his ability to play the game at the Pro level.

Preferring Stroud over Bryce was a completely reasonable take, and I was absolutely there on some weeks too. But calling him a Day 1 Bust was not something that was common on any platform during draft season - and how could it have been? That's just the lunatic fringe - we hadn't seen him play, and nobody *knew* anything.

That he hasn't been able to look even remotely like he did in College is still shocking to me - though also, easily explained by a talentless roster, particularly at Receiver, a terrible OL, and some pretty vanilla scheme. 33 year old Adam Theilan as your WR1 ain't it - in that sense, Rookie Year Bryce never had a chance.
