Goedert… It isn’t going to happen, is it?
I’ve seen enough of the Eagles to believe that Goedert will never be that top 5 TE we thought he could be. I’m struggling to justify him as top 10… Even when they TRY to feed him the ball, it’s short yardage that goes nowhere.
I’m done with this guy.

I have a bad feeling you'll be writing this thread about your other TE in a few years, too. I'm a Kincaid owner, too.
Sorry, I was big on Goedert, but Hurts hasn't been good this year, as a passer, and those 2 WR's are going to get the majority of it. Unless Hurts becomes a truly elite passer year over year, which isn't looking likely, no it's not going to happen.

Re: Goedert… It isn’t going to happen, is it?
Honestly, Hurts is a great running QB, but his passing isn’t enough to support 3 good options. AJB is the focal point of the passing offense, Smith is great and is an absurd deep threat, and Goedart could be the 2nd target on most any team… but just so many mouths to feed and it isn’t like Hurts is Mahomes, Herbert, Burrow, Allen, or even Cousins back there. Hurts limitations as a passer - as well as his strengths as a runner - are going to limit most pass catchers in that offense.

Not to derail so early in a thread, but it is too early to call Kincaid. Allen definitely is a better passer than Hurts, and when Diggs eventually falls off I could see him becoming the 1B in that offense. Lots yet to be decided there…FantasyFreak wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 9:00 pm I have a bad feeling you'll be writing this thread about your other TE in a few years, too. I'm a Kincaid owner, too.

Very sadly, I agree. He was my guy for a long time. I just traded him in my Team 1 in sig (start 2TE), where I traded up to get him in the rookie draft years ago and have rejected every attempt to sell. Yup, I traded low now -- and I think it was worth it.

Unfortunately, this can be and will be written about every next-hyped TE. The position is the ultimate three-card Monty game of fantasy football.FantasyFreak wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 9:00 pm I have a bad feeling you'll be writing this thread about your other TE in a few years, too. I love seeing league mates expending valuable draft capital chasing TE in non-TEP leagues. In non-TEP leagues, only three TEs are really worth a wooden nickel.
I have Goedert on team 1 in my sig. I'm satisfied with him, but he's not producing substantially more than every other TE5-15. They're all interchangeable. If you don't have one of the T3TE, you won't get anything close to difference-making production. It's sad.
Laporta and Musgrave look like they might get enough usage to be better than meh, but I'm not yet completely sold on them being multi-year consistently T5TEs. Different OCs yes, but GB especially has a history of TEs flashing a break-out run that excites fantasy managers, then those TEs fading back into the swamp of interchangeable TEs.

Re: Goedert… It isn’t going to happen, is it?
Tight ends with at least 1500 receiving yards since 2021:
Kelce
Andrews
Kittle
Hockenson
Goedert
It could be a lot worse. Goedert is never going to be the rare HOF, target hog type of TE, but he's still very productive and a reliable start. There are a lot of players lagging behind their usual averages right now, so positive regression is likely coming. Injury aside, he was on pace to flirt with 1000 yards last season.

Re: Goedert… It isn’t going to happen, is it?
That's the thing with TEs. It seems harder to predict who will hit for fantasy purposes than any other position. How many TEs with high draft capital have disappointed? It's hard to think of any that have MET the expectations. TJ Hockenson and Jeremy Shockey?
I hope Sam LaPorta can keep it up to buck this trend, and it would be nice if more of this year's TEs work out. For guys like Goedert, I'm not much for waiting on them. I'd rather pay the price to acquire a TE that's already doing well than spend years waiting on them.

Not all that counts can be counted. Not all that can be counted counts.
Re: Goedert… It isn’t going to happen, is it?
Pretty much all, you are correct. I've been so much better off throwing darts at TEs in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of rookie drafts then the highly touted prospects. Or I've just bought Hockenson everywhere people people were low on him for whatever reason people talked themselves into.Pac_Eddy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 4:37 am That's the thing with TEs. Re: Goedert… It isn’t going to happen, is it?
If you do not have Kelce/Andrews/Hock, you probably could say this about any vet TE.
He's another TE in that backend TE1 range, which really is not much different than mid TE2 range. However, he is still seeing targets and is still talented imo. If he had scored a TD, he would be TE11 instead of TE27 right now.
I think the offense improves a little as the season continues and there will be games where he gets 5+ targets and possibly a TD. That's really all you can ask for from a backend TE1 and I think he has higher probability than guys like Engram, Pat, etc.
The TE landscape is a mess still.
You have Kelce as TE1.
Andrews and Hock as 2 and 3 based on roles in their offense and track record.
Then young hopefuls, Pitts, Laporta, Kincaid, Musgrave. Honestly, would feel pretty comfortable starting Laporta right now. I am in a few redraft where I punted TE.
Then pick a vet TE who either gets a good amount of targets on a good offense like Kittle, Goedert or a guy who could fall in the endzone

- Is attached to an elite QB
- Is in an elite offense
- Was drafted by the current regime
- Is under contract for multiple years
- Is the third option in that offense
- Has averaged 57 y/g the last two years
- Is 28 years old
- TE6 in 2022 (.4 away from TE5)
- TE7 in 2021 (.4 away from TE5)
- One of only five TEs with 1500 receiving yards the last two seasons
He's basically been around a Top-5 TE.
Feels like a kneejerk thread because of a slow start. If I had Goedert in any league I wouldn't feel like my TE situation is in shambles and I wouldn't have any urgency to pay up to improve it. You can contend and win a championship with Goedert as your TE play.
Re: Goedert… It isn’t going to happen, is it?
TEs need to be one of the top 2 options for their team to be special. Goedert is #3 or #4 when you consider hurts's running.
He's not going to be a special TE if the eagles offense stays as is.
