Tune In?

Postby Two Cents » Thu Aug 31, 2023 6:00 am

Since I just took a flier on Clayton Tune QB AZ in the 4th round of my super flex league, I decided its time for his own thread. Questions I have.

Anything to see here?
What are the chances he produces any start worthy fantasy games?
How long will this thread last?

Inevitable proof Tune is not worthy or capable of being a productive NFL starting QB.

If you're in a start 3QB league, the chances are about 20%.
If you're in a start 2QB league, the chances are about 8%
If you're in a SF league, the chances are about 2%
If you're in a 1 QB league and you have Tune rostered, you should report to an asylum.

Tune is where the fun is in DFF. If you can add him super cheap/free and have some space to stash him, he's the kind of guy that can give you a little buzz when you see his name pop up in a thread or article. If he gets some starts in some rando AZ games that end up on your TV some afternoon or evening without much other football to watch, it's gonna provide some enjoyment for tuning in. Entertainment value. Are you going to sleep at night with a big smile and easy mind because you know you have him in your back pocket? No

(1) sure there is something to see but it's probably pretty short. The only way I can really see tune having long term value right now is if he is amazing and Kyler isn't 100% this season. I think tunes value is going to be the highest of his career this year.

(2) I think it comes down to league setup. 14+ SF leagues o think he'll be starting some games. 12 or fewer teams probably not.

(3) just like a song it depends how good the tune is

I think it would help if you noted the team he plays for in the opening post when starting one on a relatively obscure player.

For those who don't know, I Googled it. He's a 5th round rookie QB for the Cards, relevant because Kyler is on the PUP list.

Why would they waive one veteran whose familiar with the system, to bring in another veteran to learn the system, unless they were planning on giving Tune a chance? Even if they felt like the season was lost, that wouldn't warrant starting Dobbs. If anything it warrants taking lots of fliers to see what you have on he roster for next year. It just feels like the table is being set to at least give Clayton the opporTUNity to prove himself.

I mean if Tank Dell (one of his receivers at Houston) is a worthy flier, why wouldn't the QB throwing him the ball in college be?

Dobbs isn't good, but it's easier to move on from him than a rookie QB. Also, way less pressure on everyone. I think the plan is to start Dobbs. Then, when he is mediocre, they'll move to Tune.

Always worth a shot. While the chances of him being a long-term starter are slim, the same people that will tell you there’s zero shot would’ve said the same thing last year about Purdy.

You mean you saw the Cardinals draft a QB, knowing Kyler would miss time, and didn't go and watch film/highlights and research Clayton Tune all summer?

6'3" 220, sneaky athletic 9.7 RAS, with an average arm. Incremental growth each year as a starter and threw for 4k yards and 40 TD his final season. He could be a game manager in the right situation, but ARI is not that situation. I do not expect sending a day 3 rookie QB out there week1 is going to lead to success. Especially on this roster

My prediction:
- Tune will play while healthy
- Cards will lose almost every game AS PLANNED
- Cards draft Caleb Williams
- Cards trade Kyler
- Never hear from Tune again

Good bye week guy for deeper SF leagues for the 2023 season. He'll be playing some YOLO ball this year. Dobbs is the most boring QB on the planet. I really hope they start Tune over him just for the sake of making it interesting.

Everyone starting in SF is worth something and you can never tell who the next Brady, Ourdy, Mills or Minshew is. They are all worth different values but at some point they were all able to be flipped even though you knew the Texans were thanking and the Jags were tanking and SF had a qb they paid 3 1sts for, etc.

So I’m a big believer in grabbing guys like Tune and O’Connell because it’s such an easy flip for profit and the loss if nothing comes of it is almost zero.

You definitely should stash him and O’Connell for a 4th if that is a legit possibility. I doubt it at this point but from what some are saying it might be.

Had this to say a while back:
Bronco Billy wrote: Fri Aug 11, 2023 7:36 pm Watching AZ/DEN right now. Tune has a nice hose - ball just jumps out of his hand, high rate of spin on tight spirals. He just threw a pick when Moore fell down on his route.
I do like the look of him. His arm talent is definitely NFL caliber. Sets his platform quickly and alters it as rush dictates. Looks very comfortable in the pocket. Like all rookie QBs the game still needs to slow down for him. College kids just have no idea how fast NFL players are and all the little tricks of the pro game. But he sure was not in over his head. I think he’s capable of learning how to throw receivers open at this level. I like his chances, but only time will tell how his game matures and adapts.
