Mac vs Sam vs Ridder

Postby epsilonindi » Mon Aug 21, 2023 7:07 pm

What are people's opinions on these three "maybe" young starters? I'm rostering Mac as a backup right now, I but haven't been blown away so far (obviously). Should I make a play for either of the other two?

All are a gamble. Ridder may have the most upside overall but Jones is the safest, albeit with a low floor.

Mac is alright, but I would rather gamble on the other 2. Ridder is my guy. I think he has better weapons and a better team around him.

Mac is third on my list. I'm really warming up to Howell, and I would definitely buy him over Ridder if there is a real price gap. I think his rushing ability could buffer his fantasy stats.

I think Howell is set up to succeed and has a long leash.
Ridder is a decent one, but what happens if the Falcons suck? Not as confident in his staying power.
I would not be surprised if Mac Jones is replaced by Zappe at some point this season.

I see a lot of people say, what if ATL sucks? What about WAS though? I feel like they are a worse team in a much tougher division. Howell could just as easily be replaced.

Neither Howell, Ridder, or even Mac at this point have a very long leash.

I think they all have long leashes in the sense that if their team loses but the QB plays well, the QB's job is safe. None of them will get a long leash if they play like Zach Wilson.

haha yeah anyone playing like Wilson deserves a spot on the bench. I am sure both WAS and ATL hope they have franchise QBs in Howell/Ridder. But both are longshots and both have decent backups who are capable of winning games behind them. If the QB play is poor, I wouldn't be surprised to see either benched.

It's just odd to me that I see a lot more momentum for Howell these days when both are longshots still. I prefer Ridder's offensive weapons and strength of division. I think ATL has a record just above .500 while WAS struggles to get to .500.

I still think Mac Jones is the better of the 3. The pedigree and college career show it. He's been in 3 different systems in 3 years going back to Alabama and had Matt Stinking Patricia coaching the offense last season. I'm expecting a breakout year with O'Brien back at OC.
The other 2 are JAGS and probably won't make it to a second contract.

I decided to keep Mac and not make any offers for Howell.

I am beginning to think I may have made a mistake.

It looks bad, but I don’t think it’s all Mac. It starts with the OC but they don’t have a lot around Mac. Look around the league, he’s at least in the middle tier of QB right now. Howell is a flame out.

I am not ready to call Mac middle tier. He has some obstacles in his way, but he is making some really poor decisions and not showing any of the upside I once saw. I would rather own Howell if I had the choice. None are anybody I want to own though

I agree I'd definitely rather hold Howell than Mac. I'd also rather hold Ridder than Mac, but only just barely.

Mac is beginning to look like a career backup. Not bad enough to cut, not good enough to start.
