TJ Hockenson vs Jordan Addison?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

TJ Hockenson vs Jordan Addison?

Postby hockeyBjj » Tue Jul 11, 2023 8:30 am

Team 1 in sig. 10 team ppr, half ppfd. I'm having trouble deciding who I'd value higher. Addison is a nice safe young WR2 type rookie, but Hockenson is only 25, and TE is such a dead zone there's only like 6 guys that matter and he's one of them so then you don't have to play the hunt for a sleeper TE game.

My other TEs on roster are Juwan Johnson and Trey McBride, so they have chances, but we see so many TEs with chances that just never ever turn into anything.

So basically if I can trade Hockenson to the Addison owner, do I do it? I took QJ at 4 and was very, very, very torn with taking QJ or Addison there, so I reached out to the Addison drafter (went 1.06, Kincaid surprisingly went 1.05) after the draft to see if I could maybe get him with a pair of 24 1sts or both Charbonnete and Achane, but he said he'd be looking for a TE

TE's are so hard to come by and those that perform, carry solid value. Hockenson is still pretty up and down but there is more hope in Minnesota. I would hold here but I think the value is close overall. You have enough young and unproven WR's currently.

I think I would personally rather keep Hockenson than Addison, but it is very close in terms of value. But you don't need Addison like you need Hockenson.

It is waaaay easier to replace a guy like Addison who will never be the #1 option on his team. Hock is one of 3 or 4 TEs who produce. His situation has finally aligned with his high end talent. I’m riding it out with Hock on this one quite easily.

This would be more tempting in a 16 team, start 3 WR type of league. As it is, I'd hold with your current roster. I'll admit my bias too that I'm a huge fan of Addison.

I also think you are already making a big bet on the 2023 WR class with 5 on your roster. I think you hold here to diversify a bit.
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Justin Shorter
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023  , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: 1.06, 2.06, 4.06, 5.06, 6.06, 7.06, 8.06

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt.

Addison won't be a top tier wr while he's alongside JJeff and they can keep him in Minny for the next 6 years by picking up his 5th yr option and a franchise tag. TJ will be a top 10 te and he is one of the top 7 right now, so that is a big positional advantage for you. It will be harder to replace him compared to getting another wr. Hold here.
