This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Stroud or Young

Postby pnrsteelers » Sat May 06, 2023 8:50 am

In my Team 5 Superflex I have the opportunity to Draft Young or Stroud. I am torn as I want to draft Young as he is the better talent but his size and weight worry me making me lean toward Stroud. Do I just need to get over Youngs stature and draft him or would I be wise to take Stroud instead? I need to hit on this pick as I only Have Pickett and Lance as my starters. Any advise would be appreciated.

The NFL thinks that Young is better. I would be careful trying to convince yourself that you’re smarter at football decisions than the NFL…especially at the most important position in sports.

Disagree. 1 NFL team thinks Young is better - that's the only thing we know for sure.

It's one thing to say "The NFL thinks player X is better" when you're well into round 1 or later, but at the top? Nope.

Go with your guy, whoever it is.

Young has the much higher ceiling but Stroud seems sager overall with it tough to see him as a QB1 with very limited rushing upside. Play it safe or go for the upside? That's your answer.

Historically, looking back reveals very few QBs Young’s size who make it. Will he be Brees or Murray (Flutie before)? No one knows, but the ratios aren’t in favor. I’d take Stroud for the solid floor, and that he can learn to take rushing yards when they are offered.

Though I vote Young, I agree with this post. We know the NFL doesn’t like Levis. But we can’t tel how many teams prefer Stroud to Young.

Young for me. I think he is safer than Stroud. Size does not bother me. The NFL protects QBs. The historical data does not work here for me either because the data base is so low and even with the undersized qb who were drafted their hit rate seems pretty high to me. (Flute (ok), Wilson, Murray) If Young was 3" taller we would be calling him the best qb prospect in the last 20 years. He does it all, beats pressure, legs, arm, smarts, quick decision, accurate, big play, pocket presence.

Stroud checks all the boxes for me. Not only do I see him as having a high floor, but I also think he'll develop into a top 10 QB. The biggest qualm I have with CJ is how unfavorably I view Houston. The organization seems to constantly get things wrong across most levels of roster construction, even just looking at this off-season I dislike most of their significant moves.

Carolina hasn't been some mecca of football wisdom, but I've seen them make sound decisions for a decade. I also like how they've maneuvered their roster this cycle. If Young was 3 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier (without losing his athleticism around the pocket) I'd take him over Bijan. At the end of the day none of these quarterbacks feel like generational can't miss prospects (though some of those fail as well). But I think all three are promising and worth the price of admission.

My draft starts in four hours, and at 1.04 I'll be taking whichever QB drops to me. I'm pretty sure I'll be thrilled regardless of who it is.

Thanks for all the advise! I believe I would be happy with either one of these QB's as they both have a lot of upside with some sprinkles of negative aspects. I really do like Young but having had Tua ( traded my shares away) the size and weight does worry me with injuries but Young did not have the injuries in collage that Tua did which carried over into the NFL so hopefully Young will be more durable even with his size. I liked the comment that the NFL protects QB's which is true and would help Young avoid some of the hits QB's in past had to take which would create a higher risk of injuries. I really do like Young's upside and will be taking him in my draft. Thanks Again!
