Deep rookie fliers

Postby MFundercover » Wed May 03, 2023 5:37 pm

Let's see your 4th and 5th round rookie picks. Hype up your guys that probably wont amount to much in the NFL, but give me your reason for drafting them.

Tank Dell - Truly elite route running, elusive in the field. Plays and carries himself with confidence. Kid is a baller.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson - Feels like a no brainer pick for Watson owners. Has a good chance to be the backup. Carrying an emergency QB with rushing upside on your taxi is solid way to spend a late draft pick.

I was hoping a thread would pop up with Dell involved. Noticed he has been going much later in drafts than other round 3 draft picks. Loved watching his film as he always seemed open. Also, I guess Stroud also kind of hand picked him as they became friends during the combine. His weight is a bit of a concern though.

I think if any very undersized receiver can break the mold its Dell. He just has that it factor imo. His floor is Darnell Mooney in my opinion.

Just curious, what round / overall pick # did you use on DTR for your team in signature?

My team rosters Watson and I estimate I'll need to spend 3.15 which is pick #47 overall. There is a chance I get sniped...but I'm thinking 2.15 (#31) is too high and there are others I'd probably want to gamble on in that range.
"Marathon Square" - 16 team full PPR league with 24 player roster. Keep 16 per year indefinitely, draft 8. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 Team DST
QB: Jordan Love, Deshaun Watson
RB: Travis Etienne, Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Kendre Miller, Jaleel McLaughlin, Sean Tucker, Deuce Vaughn
WR: A.J. Brown, Garrett Wilson, Tee Higgins, Calvin Ridley, Michael Wilson, Kendrick Bourne, Tutu Atwell, Allen Lazard, Isaiah Hodgins, Justin Shorter
TE: T.J. Hockenson, Cole Kmet, Kylen Granson
K: Didn't make the playoffs in 2023  , and don't usually hold one in the offseason
Team DST: Cowboys, Lions

Picks:
2024: 1.06, 2.06, 4.06, 5.06, 6.06, 7.06, 8.06

Disclaimer: My one and only Championship in this league was way back in 2011. Therefore, take my replies with the appropriate grain of salt.

The two that come to mind for me are:
Vaughn at RB
M. Wilson at WR

Michael Wilson's main risk is the Injury history. Wanted him to land with a good medical staff like NO but Zona is far from that, imo.

Vaughn if there's value and as Pollard's potential heir, but not convinced he'll be a fantasy starter mainstay. More interested when I can flex 4 or more RBs.

Didn't want to put this out into the Aether since Michael Wilson is my draft crush of the season but via Jim Nagy at the Senior Bowl his medicals were fully cleared by the NFL; Which makes sense given that his injuries weren't ligament or soft tissue related.

The injury history is still concerning but there is hope that he's just been extremely unlucky in that area.

The guy's release packages and route running are Davante Adams esque coupled with good size, ball tracking and elite start/stop ability. For context on just how elite it is, he posted the fastest deceleration time in the past 5 years at Mobile regardless of position. At 209 lbs.

Also appears to be a high character guy dedicated to perfecting his craft.

His Senior Bowl rise has reminded me a lot of Terry McLaurin, another super Senior who had very little production coming out of college that was taken in the 3rd round.

I got DTR at 4.11 in 12 team. So that'd be exactly 47 overall.

I have no idea if he was on anyone's radar to draft since I have Deshaun. Eric Gray had just went the pick before and I wasnt interested in anyone else.

AT Perry was a good collegiate WR. If Thomas doesn’t pan out, he would fit in nicely to Olave and Shaheed as a big bodied guy.
SF, PPR, 12 team, 12 player dynasty

QB- Lawrence, Fields, Tannehill (max 2 keepers, 3 rostered)
RB- Bijan Robinson, T Pollard, Allgeier, Charbonnet, Achane, J Wilson, Kelley, K Williams
WR- Lamb, Jeudy, Hill, C Olave, A Pierce, Shaheed, Bourne
TE- Goedert, Musgrave
