Q. Johnston comparison
Q. Johnston comparison
So, for most of the pre-draft process...I have had Quentin Johnston as my WR1, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba a close second...and Addison and Flowers in a second tier.
As the draft approaches, a lot of analysts are mocking Johnston as WR4 on that list, and even dropping out of round 1! I keep going back to the tape and I still feel that Johnston is WR1 or WR2 in this class. I am not getting the love for Addison or Flowers. They are good players, but I feel that Johnston could be a top 10 WR in the league. Maybe I'm crazy....so I'd love to hear what you all think about him, compared to the other top WRs in this class.

Re: Q. Johnston comparison
The big concern for me is how he disappeared at times in games. Based on his size and athletic ability (on paper), I feel he should have dominated in college. He has the size to be a great red zone threat at the next level which is appealing but I could also see him not translating due to his limited route tree and not using his size and athletic ability to his top potential. He could develop in these areas but I think he is either a hit or not, not much in-between. I prefer JSN pretty comfortably but I am with you, I can see both sides in the argument for Addison and Johnson, but Flowers is well behind him.
Re: Q. Johnston comparison
He makes to many body catches and when teams decided to take him away from TCU they succeeded. That being said he was the TCU offense and it took a defensive scheme designed fully to shut him down to shut him down. If they can coach him up you got a WR1 so great. If they cant and he goes to a team with a legit WR1 like the Rams or Atl he should feast in that role as well. Even with the questions he is a lock 1st rnd pick by somebody. He fell from 1-2 to 3-4 range on nearly everyones board but nothing like a Boutte.

Re: Q. Johnston comparison
I love QJ's landing spot with LAC, and that moves him up to WR3 on my board.
IMO, QJ is to WR's what Anthony Richardson is to QB's, highest ceiling? Yes. Highest bust potential? Yes.
I like QJ's size, but he doesn't always play like a big WR, he lets the ball come into his body, which I don't like, and too many drops too.
JSN is my WR1, and I give Addison a very slight lean over QJ, but would be happy with either really.

Re: Q. Johnston comparison
Now that he is a Charger go read Mike Williams draft profile when they took him at 1.07 in 2017. I think its telling the similar flaws in their games as the staff feels they can fix them. I am more and more comparing previous picks flaws and strengths for teams and often you can see a trend of what the coaches think is fixable. You can roughly see if they succeed as well. Its a bit sloppy but I feel alot better taking Q now than I did.
I still like Q over Addison though that may have as much to do with him saying "lets go get paid" and holding his junk on camera while being interviewed on national TV during the draft as his spot. I felt the same with Manziels (in)famous money fingers and it panned out. Silly but there it is.

Re: Q. Johnston comparison
QJ is a unique profile. He's a big body athletic WR, but he doesn't use his size at all. He's bad at contested catches, body catches, etc. He's really great at YAC though. JSN, Addison, and Flowers are all much better route runners and easier to project. QJ is the ultimate boom or bust WR in this class.

Re: Q. Johnston comparison
Pretty obvious Addison and flowers were correctly evaluated by many. They had great rookie years and worse QB situations than QJ also. I'd be very concerned if I was a QJ owner.

Re: Q. Johnston comparison
Yeah, at this point I don't think I'd even offer a late 2nd 2024 rookie pick in a 12 team SF league for QJ now.

for point of reference: in team 1 in my sig, a 20-keeper league, I'm dropping QJ and keeping Tre Tucker. I was excited for QJ's potential, but his terrible showing this season has turned me completely off. There's nothing there but a faint distant hope of a hold.

I’m holding for one more year just to see if he turns it around somehow. As you said, the hope is a very faint one though.

That's just bad process. There will be another sell window. Dropping for nothing makes zero sense.Anteaters wrote: ↑Sat Feb 10, 2024 3:48 pm for point of reference: in team 1 in my sig, a 20-keeper league, I'm dropping QJ and keeping Tre Tucker.
