Walker for Javonte and 1.02

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Walker for Javonte and 1.02

Postby BradyT » Sun Apr 02, 2023 1:56 am

(Not for the team below)

I've been offered Kenneth Walker for Javonte Williams and the 1.02.

My roster:

QB: Lamar
RB: Javonte, Brian Robinson, James Cook, I.Spiller, Foreman
WR: Higgins, Pittman, DJ Moore, Jameson, C.Watson, Burks, T.Marshall, DPJ

Plan for 1.02 is Jahmyr Gibbs

Walker would obviously be the best player in the deal and I like him considerably better than Javonte, but I'm wondering if I'd be selling low on 1.02 here.
24 roster spots - 1QB,2RB,3WR,1TE,1Flex

QB: Herbert,Minshew
RB: Breece,Walker,Taylor,BRobinson,Allgeier,Spiller
WR:Jefferson,Lamb,DJMoore,QJohnston,Jameson,MMims, T.Marshall,Shakir,Gallup
TE: Andrews,Conklin
DST:DAL
2024 picks: 1.11, 2.10, 4.01, 4.05, 4.07, 4.11

Net/net: I don't think it's terrible on value but I wouldn't do this deal.

The reason this deal isn't terrible on value is because Ken Walker, based on ADP, is worth this. However IMHO he is overvalued and a sell high. If I owned him this is exactly the type of deal I'd be trying to do - get a lesser RB and a really good extra piece for him. I mentioned this before - I traded Walker ($13,4), 2.10 for Barkley ($35,3), London ($15,4) in an SC league.

The only reason to consider this deal is if you believe Williams is a lost cause because of the injury. It's hard to ignore the smoke around him so I get that. It's a risk averse move to trade him now. If that's how you manage your teams, then so be it. Nothing wrong with that. I couldn't do it. I don't think I'd buy him right now but I also wouldn't sell.

Finally - I wouldn't lock in on Gibbs for the 1.02. Let's see how the draft plays out. I see scenarios where there's a strong argument for JSN at 1.02. And/or JSN is sufficiently interesting to others that you may get a better RB than Gibbs for it.

Walker is the best piece but if Williams bounces back and Gibbs hits, your RB core is better off. Big ifs and Walker seems much safer overall. This depends on which way you want to gamble. I think you win on value and it takes the risk out of both Williams and Gibbs. Totally get the pros and cons both ways in this deal.

The 1.02 in single QB feels almost assuredly like it's going to be Gibbs or JSN. I'm excited for both players, but my opinion of Williams makes me willing to take this offer. I've always thought Javonte was being hyped a good bit more than his production dictated. If you substitute Williams for either Tony Pollard or Najee Harris (two similarly valued backs that I personally like more) I'd hold in your position.

This isn't a slam dunk move by any means, but I do prefer the Walker side.

Hey guys. Thanks for all your responses. I declined the offer. Just dont want to give up the 1.02 right now, in this kind of deal. Feel I'd be selling short and that it wouldnt help my team too much.

But still in tals with the same owner.
He just came around with this:

I give up:
Javonte
DJ Moore
My own 2024 1st
My own 2025 2nd

I get:
Kenneth Walker
1.07

I kind of like it, but the fact of my own 2023 1st being the 1 02 scares me... potentially giving up a high 2024 1st for this years 1.07

What do you think?

Javonte scares me enough, I would be more open to this than others. I would have done the 1st trade

I might take Walker in this. Could backfire but seems to be the more sure thing. I’d see if he’d throw a little something back on top of Walker

So if I'm understanding correctly.

1st Deal
You give Javonte & the 1.02 for K. Walker

New Deal
You Give Javonte, DJ Moore, your 2024 1st & your 2025 2nd for Walker & the 1.07

I like DJ Moore a fair bit more than the 1.07 in single QB. So I see this as really the 1.02 vs the future picks and some spill over value lost from downgrading from Moore.

I think I prefer the first deal, but that's because it's hard to project your team out this season (mostly due to Lamar Jackson). This new trade is gambling on yourself to take a significant step forward and finish in the playoffs in 2023 (making your 1st round pick a late one), if that's the case than I think the new deal is better. I think I would probably have countered a different way though.

I'd have tried to leave my side as is, and gotten some picks thrown in on his side. I think DJ Moore is being very undervalued on the trade market right now, I think he's going to have his best year in Chicago.

Something like K. Walker, his 2023 2nd & 2024 2nd for Javonte & the 1.02.

SO if this was turned around and it was the 1.02 on the block...
Are JaVonte and Chris Godwin and the 2.04 enough to trade the 1.02 ?
The 2023 draft class that is facing some questions on its ability to match up with past drafts in terms of blue chip talent at the top of the pyramid. Is it enough in a PPR ..1QB league.
