Sam Howell

Postby grandmabetty » Sun Jan 08, 2023 4:56 pm

Anything to see here? Wouldn't be hard to ascend to the top of Washington's QB room. He's about to lead a victory over a cowboys team playing for the #1 seed. Early in mocks, before the real draft saw him fall, many had him mocked as a 1st rd fantasy pick. I even saw a few that had him as the 1.01.

Yes there is something to see. Many people had him as the best QB in last year's draft (not saying much). He had a good sophomore year and people were hopeful for his junior year. But the 2020 draft took away many of his weapons (javonte, Carter, diami brown, dazz newsome). As a result his junior year he did a lot of running. 180 rushes junior year compared to 90 sophomore year.

Besides ty Chandler, Howell was the only skill position player drafted from north Carolina last year.

I like him in 12+ team SF. Though I wouldnlt invest heavily in him now if you don't have him. The time to invest with him was prior to this week. Especially in 14+ team SF.

He has the potential to be a dual threat QB, and who doesn't like that for fantasy, but the problem will be his draft stock and the fate of his coach. Unless he can show something next season, his prospects are almost non existent.

I loved Howell. He was my favorite QB value, and I think he's highly under-valued.

If he starts next year with his scrambling ability, he'll be a dark horse for any 2QB league.

Doubt he's a long term starter, and his draft capital likely means significant competition. There's little chance Washington enters next year without adding a QB with some serious draft capital, or in FA.

I see it in him. He’s also tough and great runner, and any team in the NFC East watching what Hurts has done is probably really valuing those two attributes right about now. I think he has a good shot at being the starter and excelling in fantasy.

His upside seems like becoming the next Taylor Heinicke. I guess that’s not nothing, but at this point would rather have the roster spot.

What's a realistic cost to acquire him?

He went in the 4th Round in most of my rookie drafts.
Would an owner take a 3rd for him?

3rds are such a crapshoot I would expect to have to pay a 2nd. I wouldn’t give that for him, but I would expect that to be the ask. Until Washington does something at QB this off-season he will probably be viewed as their starter by his managers.

on the clock with some interesting player still there, i could see a 3rd being enough. i'm not a believer, but for a 3rd i'd rather keep him and hope his value jumps up a bit.

Nah I'd hold him for a third. Like I said, this isn't the time to acquire him. That time has passed. The next opportunity will be when we see who else is brought in at qb.

I think Washington will be one of the teams in on Carr, Rodgers, Garoppolo, and Lamar this offseason.

Their offseason would have to be pretty bad to settle on Howell as the guy for next season.

What the general public think of a player and what the NFL thinks of a player do not always match up. Happens every year.
