Right.

Imagine missing out on Mahomes because the Texas Tech offense was basically high school crossed with air raid, and not an NFL STYLE OFFENSE (tm)

Oh wait, that's exactly what happened...

"So just keep that in mind"

At this point I'm pretty sure I'd rather draft Penix than JJM straight up, and especially so at relative cost.
yup... don't tell teh JJ lovers this, but he throws a terrible ball.
Didn’t see the OSU game I’m guessing? Pass to Roman was special. People can argue about if it was a catch or not all day, but it was a great pass, and he’s had plenty of them in his career. The more I watch this class the more I have JJ solidly at QB2. Can’t wait to see it play out throughout the year.

Hot take - if he goes to MN and they don’t trade JJ he’ll finish as ffb QB1 rookie year

I feel like I have way more guys this year that are landing spot dependent

was that the pass where the OSU defender turns his back to the throw?

when i watch him, i see a lot of flat fastballs and not much else. i can also see him having shoulder problems at some point.

time will tell.... and maybe he will be teh second coming.

For what it's worth, you're not the only one saying this.
This is where the critics come in. And two things that came up consistently, even with those who like him—every throw is a fastball (“He’s more of a thrower than a passer,” says one coach), and he really has to throw his body into throws, and delivers the ball from an overly wide base, indicating he needs time and space to throw, which he was routinely afforded playing on a stacked Michigan team. “People talk about Drake’s motion, but I think J.J.’s has to be cleaned up a lot more,” says an AFC exec. “He puts his whole damn body into it, his feet are wide, there’s a lot to work through.”

Also, where there are tight-window throws, there are bouts with inaccuracy that some have trouble getting past. “I’m just watching the running backs and receivers, and the inaccuracy is incredible,” says an AFC OC. “Maybe it’s because the other guys are so good, but they’re stopping on routes, digging the ball out of the dirt. You see his feet are split, and everything is a fastball. You have these fireballs as checkdowns. He’s not for me.” And an offense that’s so reliant on the run game makes it tough to project McCarthy. “Everything is play-action. There’s no drop-back. It’s just hard,” says an NFC quarterbacks coach. “Their four biggest games, he didn’t do much special. He was just a guy. He’s not accurate, he’s an overstrider in the pocket, and he plays with happy feet. He has a powerful arm, but having a powerful arm and being a good thrower are two different things. I think he’s a backup.”

The QBs coach continued, “Last drive of the game against Alabama, the receiver [Roman] Wilson runs a deep cross, and J.J. has him open, but he overstrides and the ball sails on him. It’s gonna be a pick and Michigan’s gonna lose. The Alabama DB thinks he’s got it, and Wilson makes a ridiculous catch. And that’s an easy throw. S--t like that, I worry about.”
Just some professional opinions, and obviously those that disagree are welcome to their own opinions.

Just like... so long as we're here. :boohoo:

It was the one threaded between two defenders. I think both defenders had their backs to the ball, but that specific is irrelevant to the impressiveness of the accuracy to hit the wr in between both the dbs imo, as both dbs were in good coverage on Roman’s hips. It was a dot.

His 3rd and long stats are great, and basically anytime UofM needed him to make a play last year he did.

I could be way off also, and agree time will tell, but I’m pushing more and more chips in on JJ (barring a bad spot or unexpectedly not great draft capital)

If they sit back and get Penix at 23 I'll be ok with that. If they pay to move up for him...then I'll be disappointed that they couldn't move up earlier in the first instead.
That's my sentiment as well, I don't mind the Vikes trying for a QB in the 1st but I'd rather they let the board come to them than give up a bunch of draft capitol to move up and have to do the same thing all over again in a few years

And now we are debating the one good pass anyone can remember JJM making in the college playoffs. Come on Thursday.

Chris Sims touched on this in his review of JJ McCarthy. Currently, he has to put his while body into the throw to get some good velocity. But he is a kid, and will get stronger, and should, or could?, increase his arm strength. So the question is, are we drafting these kids as finished products, or projecting what they could become?

Regarding the older prospects, they are 6 year college athletes. They are no longer college students, they are already full on pro playing college ball. They certainly seem more like finished products, so I wouldn't project them to increase their level of play from what we have seen already

This is going to be an interesting dynasty rookie draft. Even mid to late 1st round picks may have a choice at multiple QBs with similar NFL draft capital.

But for me, I'll take whoever Minnesota gets. Minnesota made Nick Mullens fantasy relevant.

They don't call plays (they get cards?) and JJM is the only one that has been calling plays, understands how that all works. So just keep that in mind.

I remember that was the selling point of wentz over Goff, bc wentz ran a more pro style offense. It’s probably a bonus but it’s not going to make or break someone.
