Misery loves company 2021 edition

Postby joeday » Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:23 am

I've done this in the past where I whine about a loss I've had just so other people can post their saddest losses and we can make each other feel better about it.

For the Mastodons in my signature, I went through more injuries and COVID issues than any other team I own and any other team in any of my 25 leagues. It started out losing ETN (who I drafted over J.Williams) and JK Dobbins (who I traded Mixon for) getting hurt in back to back weeks. I made some moves to get Swift mid-season, lost him to basically a season ending injury shortly thereafter. Calvin Ridley basically retired for the season. DeAndre Hopkins hurt. Darren Waller hurt (right after I traded away Dallas Goedert). Dalvin Cook nicked up and on COVID list for the semis. Trade for LF and he gets hurt. But the biggest blow of all was losing Derrick Henry. With all the other injuries I decided to trade Henry, Goedert, and Lawrence for LF, RoJo, JK Dobbins (I traded him away after his injury), and Burrow. I somehow led the league in points and had a 10-4 record. In the semis I had Davante Adams blow up for me on Christmas and felt really good about my matchup even though I was playing Mattison, RoJo, and Foster Moreau. Damien Harris punched me right in the face. I ended up losing by 7. If Brady gets paltry 24 points instead of 16, I win. If I play the Dolphins D over the Eagles, I win (though I struggled with the decision, I still believe this was the right call...I believed Payton could hide his bad QB better than Judge could). This will be the first time since 2011 the Mastodons have not made the finals. Not only that, I traded Henry to get to where I wanted to go, but now I'm not in the finals AND I don't have Derrick Henry. I don't get that emotional over fantasy football, but this one really was a gut punch.

Ok people, share your misery and make me feel better lol

I lost to the team that only won 1 game this season in week 1.

Had I won that game, I'd be in the ship.

His team is hot garbage and mine is quite stacked.

Only misery story I have is from week 15 first round playoff loss. I lost by .42 points on goeddert's last Tuesday night catch. I had the 2nd highest score in the league that week.

The full story is that I was up by 13 some odds point going into the Tuesday games. I have Sony Michel left, he had Russ and Goeddert. Knew that I would need Russ to have a bad game to win. Russ did have a bad game. On the last meaningful LAR drive I was up by a 0.1 points. Michel took a four yard loss on 2nd down, dropping me to -.3. on third he got a 4 yard gain, putting me back up .1. needed Russ to get nothing and goeddert nothing to win. Russ throws for 38ish yards and I'm down 1.5 points. Then he throws the pick (-4 in this league) and suddenly I'm up 2.5ish and that game is over, just need to fade goeddert. And eagles are up 10 with less than 4 to go.
Eagles run on first and second down. It's 3rd and 2 with this run heavy eagles offense up by 10. One more play before two minute warning. They hike, not a handoffs, hurts drops back. Hoping he'll run for the first because hey it's hurts. Then he throws... Right to goeddert, he gets enough yards to put me down 0.42 points. It was a rollercoaster ride.

I then had the highest score in the league week 16 (I wasn't playing for anything but set my lineup like I was just to see how'd I do). If I have the highest again week 17, well that's gonna be miserable.

Close runner up is my team that I had the number one seed in and now have the following players on IR:
CMC
Fournette
James Robinson
Evans (though he should be off and play this week)
Wentz (and Taysom hill for week 16)

I will add this. This year really made me appreciate the 2 week playoff system and highly recommend it. In my defending champ league (league 2 in signature) due to injuries and covid I was out the following for week one of our two week, 4 team all play finals:
Godwin
Hopkins
Kelce
Swift
Cook

This week I should have Kelce, swift, and cook back. And thanks to Justin Jackson I'm coming into week 2 in 4th place but only down 18 points to 1st place.

Feeling like I have a legit chance to actually take the back to back titles there. Of course if I don't, this becomes another unfortunate story.

lost two narrow games by stat corrections, including week 14. IDP, 20 teams, 8 make the playoffs. 4th in points scored, sixth seed at the end of week 14, out of the playoffs two days later.

My misery is pretty tame in comparison, but still kinda funny.

Prior to our rookie draft, I had to clear a roster spot. I held Qadree Ollison and Wayne Gallman, who was with the Niners at that point. That was around the time Akers got injured, so I speculated on Gallman maybe being signed by the Rams and cut Ollison.

Before week 1, Gallman was still buried on the Niners depth chart, whereas rumors from Atlanta suggested Ollison could be up for a larger role behind shaky starter Mike Davis. Ollison was still available on the waiver wire, so I cut Gallman and made a successful $0 bid on Ollison.

Less than 24 hours later, the Falcons cut Ollison and signed Gallman. Much to the amusement of the other owners, who all voiced interest in bidding on Gallman in the following week. So I had to spend a few FAAB $$$ on getting Gallman back with the next waiver cycle.

Which, as we all know now, was yet another exercise in futility, as the Falcons decided to help Cordarrelle Patterson to a retirement-age breakout season. :wall:

Needless to say I'll never touch Gallman nor Ollison ever again.

I'm with you. Had two teams cruising all season, combined 25-5 record. Ekeler, Godwin, Brady, various guys unavailable or straight up faceplanted in the semis. Fought all year for the bye, go one and done. You've never heard a more glorious whimper.

This is rough. You could field two competitive teams with just the players who are OUT…

The more I play the more I realize it is about getting healthy at the right time just as much as anything else. Was in a league where for 2 years in a row I was far and away the #1 seed and got bit by injuries going into the playoffs and through the bye week and into the semi’s. It stings when this happens… and I’d almost rather my players get hurt early in the season because when they aren’t playing they are much less likely to get hurt than when they ARE playing!

This happened to me one year. I figured it out when I went to set my lineup for the playoffs, and that really killed the joy of the season. My condolences.

I've made the playoffs 4 straight years (team 2 in sig)
3 of them I finished 1st overall w/ most points, best all play, etc and got a 1st round BYE. One of the seasons I was undefeated heading into the playoffs.
4 straight years I have lost my first playoff matchup. My team either flops w/ my worst week of the season or the team I was playing put up their best of the season
4 straight years the team that beat me has won the championship

We have consolation brackets. After my losses, my team has gone on to win the remaining matchups, scoring points where I'd have easily won the matchups for the championship :boohoo: :boohoo: :(

Went 11-3 in reg. Season (best record). Semi finals week 15 saw Najee, Chase, Renfrow, Patterson, and Diontae put up their worst lines of the season for me (a combined 21 pts total for these five in half ppr).

I lost by 10 pts. Would’ve won our two-week Super Bowl by 85 pts had I made it. :wall:
