Marquez Callaway Thread
Didn't see a recent thread for this guy but I grabbed him after his little outburst last year and have had him just sitting on my taxi squad. Well, after training camp hype and last night's performance (Those TD catches were RIDICULOUS - Preseason or not) it's easy to envision him getting into that WR3 conversation with potential for more growth. Am I too far off on this assessment?
Let's hear it!

I think he is probably in the WR2 conversation assuming Winston is the QB
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

Ya I'd say it's definitely a possibility. Probably changes a little bit if/when Michael Thomas ever gets back to a healthy contributor for the Saints but assuming Jameis wins the job (which he should IMO) then the sky is the limit for Callaway

I'd say low end WR3 but stating the obvious - he's an immediate pick up.

Is he a quick flip candidate? Or do we think we have something that could potentially be good for a few years after Thomas is gone.

If anyone will pay a legit price for a guy who has practiced well and caught two preseason TDs - go for it. WRs emerge like no other.....on offense at least.YouMightDieTryin wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:49 am Is he a quick flip candidate? As someone who did not capitalize on the Travis Fulgham hype train last year while it was rolling, I would agree. If you can get something respectable then I would most likely take it.Space Cowboy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 9:51 amIf anyone will pay a legit price for a guy who has practiced well and caught two preseason TDs - go for it. Re: Marquez Callaway Thread
I traded Henderson for him. I like Hendersons potential, but Mcvay doesn't seem to like Henderson at all. I needed more receiver depth than running back depth so I got Callaway
Edit: I should add that Michael Thomas may not come back to the Saints. There seems to be some issues brewing behind the scenes. Callaway has looked very good going back to late last year. I think its a hold unless you get an offer you can't refuse.

After watching him last night I would hold him unless someone paid me like he was a WR1. His routes were clean and he showed to do the things a WR should do but those catches were special. It was stuff you dont teach, guy has it or not and he has it. That in itself isn't doing it for me with MT seemingly being infected with Antonio Bryant disease and TreQuan Smith disappointing and not being healthy guy is looking pretty attractive for a strong year. The price will go up before it comes down right now, hold him into the season.

Re: Marquez Callaway Thread
He played well last year when he had the opportunity. He seems to be carrying it over to this year, preseason or not. Even if Thomas comes back why cant he still have a steady target dose? With Thomas on the field Callaway should only have single coverage. I am hopeful he can be a solid WR3. And for now he seems to be all the Saints have.

I'm with Yarnith here. Hold, at least for a few weeks. It's hard to see how Jameis won't get the job now, and lest we forget - Jameis made both Evans and Godwin weekly WR1-2's. It's not like Callaway is going to get charged for the interceptions... if anything, Jameis throwing INT's is just going to put him in a more negative game-script, requiring more throwing.Yarnith wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 10:21 am After watching him last night I would hold him unless someone paid me like he was a WR1. He's going to have to fire that ball somewhere, and the answer is Callaway. His routes were crisp, and he really attacks the ball at the catch point. The TD's are getting all the attention, but watch the way he works back to the ball and attacks it to move the chains on his other catches + week 1. Those are Alpha WR type catches on money downs - it really looks like the offense is going to flow through him through the air.
I'm holding him until at least week 4, and then we'll see where the price is up to at that point. It may take time for the price to catch up to his true value if this is indeed his role, so as a contender, I'll gladly use him for spot starts. I'm loving what I'm seeing.
Re: Marquez Callaway Thread
There may be ten or so guys in the league who could have pulled in either of those TDs. To do both? In one quarter of football? I don’t think that people are using their imagination enough in regards to his ceiling. He’s going nowhere and you’d be a fool to sell right now.

Re: Marquez Callaway Thread
He'll be yanked if that happens. Winston, admittedly looked good. Hill was only operating at 50 percent, and has all pre-season, so it's tough to gauge with real accuracy who the better QB is in pre season, when Payton isn't using the parts of the playbook that allow Hill to excel. I think Winston may get first crack at it, originally having thought Taysom would. It's tough to say, as Payton knows the parts of Hill's game that stretch the D aren't being used in pre-season. Whoever gets the gig to start, will be on a short leash though. If Winston throws a few stupid picks, like he normally does, they will have a negative game script, no doubt, but he might be on the bench at that point, for it.mild wrote: ↑Tue Aug 24, 2021 2:54 pmI'm with Yarnith here. As for Callaway, his ball skills looked fantastic. Both those TD's were top notch. Great use of his hands, ball tracking, and ultimately coming down with the ball and hanging on, despite hitting the turf hard on both of them. Fantastic stuff.

19 year old sophomore breakout at least, with an 8.9 RAS - meh he’s a better add than Strachan at least lol.
It’s pretty much impossible for the Saints to trade Mike with his contract the next 2 years, once again sell if you get a decent offer before he’s back.

MT situation is pretty ugly looking. I would not assume he doesn't jump the rails and go Antonio Bryant.Rondalebaby wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 3:37 pm 19 year old sophomore breakout at least, with an 8.9 RAS - meh he’s a better add than Strachan at least lol.
