Anybody who's a fan heard any rumblings about when the WFT is going to select a mascot?

I wasn't surprised they didn't feel like they had enough time to make a change before last season. But are they really going to play again in 2021 as the "WFT"? I sure hope not...

It's a slow news time of year with the primary wave of free-agency pretty much in the books. Just something I was thinking about.

Anyone have a preference as to what they'd like the new team name to be?

Haven't heard anything but they need to do something. Every time I see a tweet with "WFT" I see "WTF" and think something went down, but it's only more boring WFT stuff.

They have a website where fans can weigh in. They are planning on 2022 rollout. So dumb it’s going to take that long.

In honor of 4 skin colors living in unity & harmony (black, white, red, yellow), I think they should be The Washington 4skins. I cool logo would be a spiral of 4 arms of the 4 colors all interconnected.....

I can’t find the article, but there is talk about the team keeping the colors and Washington Foootball Team name how it is permanently.

Uh-oh.

To think we could be saddled with "WFT" on a permanent basis?! I really can't get on board with that idea.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s half bad because most mascots are pretty lame if we really think about it (Dolphins, Bears, Jaguars, Cardinals etc.). At least with The Washington Football Team it creates a down to business attitude that aligns with how most European soccer clubs operate. They’re a football team, that’s it.

It also can have an elitist view, which I’m sure DC would love. They are THE football team... kinda like Ohio State.

Or maybe they go with The Washington Lobbyists!

At any rate, I think the RedWolves would be a pretty sweet name. It sounds cool to me and I think that the uni’s could look pretty sweet!

I do get the whole "Football Club" angle sounding like a European Soccer club. And in a way, that would be unique. It's possible you could come up with a cool logo, and maybe the fans would be happy with that?

I was just now thinking about the Browns. There's no fancy logo on their helmets, and though some of their merchandise features a dog's head it's not prominent on actual team gear. So I suppose there's precedent from a uniform design standpoint. The uniforms could just be about the team colors.

I also feel like the typical/traditional type Washington DC names that immediately come to mind have been used. The Capitals (NHL), Senators (MLB), Nationals (MLB), Patriots (NFL), Warriors (NBA).

Maybe they could do something to tie in with the fans who call themselves "The Hogs" and wear the pig snouts and all that. Washington Trench Hogs? Maybe even give a nod to Black Sabbath and go with the Washington War Pigs? Not saying this is an easy choice, it's kind of impactful really when you consider how to brand your team.
