James Robinson
How high is everyone on James Robinson? He had a great season, but what track record is there for sustained success from UDFAs? Lawrence and Meyer seem to boost value of the JAC RB, but how confident should we be that it will be J Rob? After all, Fournette seemed pretty locked in.

Re: James Robinson
I like him and think he gets a solid shot to be the guy again next year. That being said, I would give a back end mid 1st for him just in case Jacksonville brings in competition.

I agree that a mid to late 1st is what I’d aim to buy him for just incase they bring in comp. but he’s earned the starting role

I’m not particularly high on him and am not really looking to buy until I know he won’t have competition, but a late 1st isn’t bad if you like him.

Re: James Robinson
He is a FA in my league during this year's auction. Cap crunch will hurt a lot of manages, but I wouldn't want to sign him for 3 or 4 years. That would make him more expensive.
I am looking to add another RB, and he is out there, but committing long term (to him and the position in general) is tough. Some other guys out there include J. Jacobs, M. Gordon, D. Harris, R. Jones, R. Mostert. Outside Jacobs, wouldn't give any of these guys longer than 2 years.
Other than a Ekeler, what other UDFAs at RB have made a name for themselves on a consistent basis? There is the infamous Jonas Gray. Not that there is a caste system, but draft capital is a thing. He looks like the real deal when you watch him. Still concerned. Is that a dumb thing to get caught up on?

Re: James Robinson
While I understand the reasoning for buying at a mid to late 1st, I'm not selling for that. I'd be shooting for the 1.4-1.5 range. Sure it's likely they'll add a RB but realistically they won't spend a ton on the additional option, just something to upgrade the current stable of nothings behind Robinson. Bevell tends to be run heavy while Meyer is more wide open. With that in mind though, it seems logical that with a rookie QB, the lead RB will continue to see plenty of touches. Even if a new body takes 8 touches, it leaves Robinson in a fresher and healthier position as the season moves on. The guy showed patience, vision, power, balance, and good hands as a rookie without an offseason program nor a deep talent pool around him.
Re: James Robinson
Priest Holmes and Arian Foster are the two mega studs that were UDFAs that come to mind for me.MaddMadden wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 3:29 pm He is a FA in my league during this year's auction. Re: James Robinson
I think that is a fair reason to be concerned. I also see this as a possible good thing. Jacksonville has issues top to bottom and holes to fill everywhere. If Robinson is the real deal, he is super cheap and Jacksonville can send elsewhere. Why focus at all on RB with all the other issues on a team if you dont have too? But as I mentioned earlier, I certainly understand the concern.MaddMadden wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 3:29 pm He is a FA in my league during this year's auction. Re: James Robinson
I just traded Robinson away in my league for DJ Moore if that's any help. Now, there are caveats in that, I'm pretty well stocked at RB, the other owner is well stocked at WR (Higgins, Jefferson, AJ Brown, Shenault amongst others) and people really hold on to RBs. So I think I got a good price.
My thoughts on Robinson - the UDFA business is scary. However, he was immense. I mean, you watch him play, and he was just brilliant. On a terrible team. I think they have a lot of holes, so I'm not sure they can bring in anyone early in the draft to compete with him. You never know, but I just don't see them doing it. I'm not sure what kind of cap space they have, whether or not they'd go after any of the FAs. Next year they'll actually have a capable QB, so that may open things up a bit more for him.
Basically ... the only worries you can have really are his draft status, and the fact it's a new regime. But if you look at his body of work, he really should be the unquestioned starter there, unless he regresses obviously and immediately next season.
