I could do this all day (but won’t). How far should we all be expected to throw common sense completely out the window?Sriracha wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:26 pmHe was widely speculated to either go 1.01 to SF or fall in the draft.Bronco Billy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 12:13 pmSo the year before and the year after Rodgers was drsfted, 3 QBs went in the top 11 picks, but 22 teams were so set at QB in 2005 that despite being picks 2-23 that they let a legitimate 1.01 QB slide?
Okay.
The reason so many teams let him fall? They were "set at QB" and could pass on a good yet unspectacular prospect.
2005 starting QBs and draft position, picks 2-23:
2) MIA Gus Frerotte (34 yr old version no less)
3) CLE Trent Dilfer (33)
4) CHI Kyle Orton
5) TB Chris Simms/Brian Griese
6) TEN Steve McNair
7) MIN Brad Johnson (37)/Dante Culpepper
8) ARI Kurt Warner (34)
9) WAS Mark Brunell (35)
10) DET Joey Harrington/Jeff Garcia (35)
11) DAL Drew Bledsoe (33)
12) SD Drew Brees
13) NO Aaron Brooks
14) CAR Jake Delhomme
15) KC Trent Green
16) HOU David Carr
17) CiN Carson Palmer
18) MIN (yep, passed on Rodgers twice)
19) STL Marc Bulger/Jamie Martin (35)
20) DAL missed Rodgers twice too
21) JAX Byron Leftwich/David Garrard
22) BAL Kyle Boller/Anthony Wright
23) OAK Kerry Collins (33)
So, we know that Rodgers wasn’t All World Rodgers at thst time, but we are being told here that he was a legit 1.01 pick that was bypassed for the talent above. Yeah, there are a few fixed starters and even a legit franchise guy in a couple of places. But are you going to state as fact that no team(s) on that list would pounce on a legitimate 1.01 QB if he dropped to them like Rodgers did?
That just goes way beyond the bounds of credibility. C’mon guys, seriously. Let me guess, you’re going on what GMs/HCs/Scouts said before the draft as your “facts”? Had to be true then...
Re: How many QBs go in the first round?
I don't really understand what your point is.. Our arguments are pretty much the same; I've just given you more context.
SF literally said they chose Alex Smith because they thought his mobility would make him a better fit for their offense (Which had a struggling O-line). Rodgers was in strong consideration for the 1.01 that year; The 1.01 just didn't mean the same thing as say.. this year with 5 stud QB prospects and Trevor Lawrence in the draft class.
To reiterate, it was a weak QB class.. those happen. There was 1 year the 1st QB taken was Geno Smith to the Jets in the 2nd round.

Whoa whoa whoa. 5? Now, I disagree more than the Rodgers/Love thing!Sriracha wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:02 pm I don't really understand what your point is.. Our arguments are pretty much the same; I've just given you more context.

Yea, Mac Jones is probably going to go higher than many expect and I it wouldn’t surprise me if he went top 10.Lumps wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:07 pmWhoa whoa whoa. 5? Edit: toned the Jones hype down a bit

Interesting. I haven’t seen Jones that high.Sriracha wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:08 pmYes, 5 of these QBs will likely go top 10, at worst top 15.Lumps wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:07 pmWhoa whoa whoa. 5? I have to think if any of them go to SF that is the value play. Shanahan gets points out of his QBs if they can stay healthy. Unless, it’s someone sexy like Fields.
Edit: that many THAT high scares me. Makes me think of Ponder/Locker//Gabbert
Re: How many QBs go in the first round?
I'm thinking more Mayfield, Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Lamar. It's anyone's guess who's going to pop in the NFL. More QBs = more rounds in the chamber to get it right.Lumps wrote: ↑Thu Feb 25, 2021 1:14 pmInteresting. I haven’t seen Jones that high.

Also, that's a really weird assortment of QBs you chose. We just had 3 QBs taken in the top 6 last year!
To give some more context here, I'm not sure exactly why people are hating on Mac Jone's limitations so much. The NFL has taken pocket passers with just above average arm strength highly before (Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers, Josh Rosen, Jared Goff, Jameis Winston, Sam Bradford). Mac Jones has shown accuracy at every quadrant of the field, just won a ship and is 6'3 215.

I assume you where young enough not to remember this draft. It was 50/50 between him and Smith. You read the entire quote right? About Rodgers’ play in tge 2005 preseason? Or was that selective on your part too? And where in the 7 Hells does “too short” have to do with anything? If Rodgers was in serious consideration for the 1st pick in the draft, how did 22 other teams bypass him in Rd1 before GB ended his torture? That’s 2/3rds of the NFL bypassing him when according to you he was about as likely to go with the 1st pick in the draft as Smith.
Okay.
I am just a guy sharing some thoughts

Here's a list of QBs that wound up not working out in the long run and that's SO clear to see with my Hindsight 2000 goggles!!!!
Thanks for the links. It's been so long now I actually completely forgot that he grew up a 9ers fan. What a bleep situation, that coming from a Packers fan that's happy to have him. Would have wanted him to go to the 9ers. Imagine what may have been.

Actions speak louder than words. Re: How many QBs go in the first round?
I'm so glad to hear that Aaron Rodgers, Alex Smith, and Jordan Love have so much to do with this years QB class.
Also that is the order in which there career success will fall.
