Rookie pick 2.07: Edwards or Moss?

Postby Avery » Sat Aug 29, 2020 7:15 am

Team 2 below.

Traded my first round picks for Kamara and my attempts to trade back up have not come to fruition so I finally get to make a pick here at 2.07 in our rookie/FA draft.

Top 2 guy left on my board are Edwards and Moss. I'm leaning towards Edwards here but am interested to see the wisdom of the board.

Note that we are adding an additional flex (RB/WR) next year.

Rookie draft so far below.
1.01 Taylor, Jonathan IND RB (R)
1.02 Edwards-Helaire, Clyde KCC RB (R)
1.03 Akers, Cam LAR RB (R)
1.04 Dobbins, J.K. BAL RB (R)
1.05 Lamb, CeeDee DAL WR (R)
1.06 Jeudy, Jerry DEN WR (R)
1.07 Swift, D'Andre DET RB (R)
1.08 Jefferson, Justin MIN WR (R)
1.09 Reagor, Jalen PHI WR (R)
1.1 Ruggs, Henry LVR WR (R)
1.11 Dillon, AJ GBP RB (R)
1.12 Higgins, Tee CIN WR (R)
2.01 Gibson, Antonio WAS RB (R)
2.02 Mims, Denzel NYJ WR (R)
2.03 Shenault, Laviska JAC WR (R)
2.04 Hurst, Hayden ATL TE
2.05 Pittman, Michael IND WR (R)
2.06 Burrow, Joe CIN QB (R)
Team 1: Dynasty/Contract Team: 12 Team, PPR, QB,1 RB, 2WR, 2 Flex WR/RB, TE (Premium TE scoring: 1.25X receiving yards points)
QB – J. Hurts, A Richardson
RB – Javonte Williams, K. Walker III, J. Ford, K. Miller, J.K. Dobbins,
WR – J. Chase, C. Lamb, P. Nakua, K. Allen, T. Burks
TE – D. Waller, C. Okonkwo, L. Thomas, J. Ferguson

2024 rookie/FA picks: 1.12. 2.12, 3.12

Team 2: Dynasty Team: 12 Team, 0.5 PPR, QB, 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 2 Flex WR/RB/TE (Premium TE scoring: 1.5X receiving yards points)
QB - A. Rodgers, L. Jackson

Tough choice as this would be my predicament too here. I'd go Edwards

I'm legit torn right now.

I'm trying not to lean too much into draft capital, because all that predicts is opportunity and Moss clearly has an opportunity and has flashed in camp while Singletary has has issues.

I believe in acquiring talent in the rookie draft regardless of position, but position scarcity has to be considered too and Moss is the last RB who excites me and in the 3rd round I'm seeing other WRs I could get that I like such as Van Jefferson, Gandy-Golden, Duverney to keep my roster balanced.

But for Edwards, I think he dropped in the draft due to a foot injury so the value is there too and he is flashing in camp as well.

What to do...

I'd most definitely select Moss. I have Edwards and I'm excited for his talent but dislike his situation. I believe Rugs is the real deal, and think Hunter Renfrow is a legitimate upcoming slot machine. I'm worried about the Vegas QB position and think Jacobs is the best player on the offense.

I'm split on who is the better talent between Edwards and Miss, so the situation difference for Moss makes the decision for me.

Working into my logic is that most of this league is based in western NY so Mioss may have a better than average trade value if he hits.

I just got an offer of:
I give: 2.07 (this pick) + 3.07
I get: 2.08 + 3.02

I have high confidence that the other guy will take Moss.

Now if I'm torn, the logic is obviously take the deal and let him make the decision for me and maximize value in the 3rd but... I'm starting to lean into Moss.

This long pick clocks can be a blessing and a curse. #stillunsure

Based on your lack of running back depth I would pick Moss.
12 Team - 1 pt. PPR, 23 Player Roster, (10 Starters) 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLX (RB, WR, TE), 1 K, 1 DEF

Masters of the Gridiron (Est. June 4th 2016) 2022 Regular Season Record: 21-7, 2nd Place (Playoffs 0-2, Lost 3rd Place Consolation Game)
QB: Jalen Hurts, Trey Lance, Matthew Stafford, Desmond Ridder, Gardner Minshew, Tom Brady
RB: Rhamondre Stevenson, Joe Mixon, Damien Harris, Devin Singletary, Jeffery Wilson, Kareem Hunt, Pierre Strong
WR: Ceedee Lamb, Stefon Diggs, Cooper Kupp, Chris Godwin, Jahan Dotson, Diontae Johnson, Donovan Peoples-Jones, K J Hamler
TE: Mark Andrews, Travis Kelce, Dallas Goedert, Chigoziem Okonkwo
K: Evan McPherson
D/ST: Kansas City Chiefs

Draft Picks
2023: 3.4, 3.5

Yeah. I hate to lean away from talent and into need but if talent is similar, getting a better balanced team plus with relative short benches, a quicker "hit rate" on RBs is something to consider.

Note that I do only need to start 1 RB but this is a year when depth will be more important than ever... firmly leaning towards Moss now enough to probably pass on the above trade offer.

Ended up grabbing Moss.

Probably should have taken the trade but feel OK about it.

I would have stayed pat and taken Moss as well, especially knowing that there are some buffalo homers in the league. If Moss has a couple of big games, you could easily flip him for significantly more value than the pick upgrade offered here.

It never fails to fascinate me how differently we rank these prospects. The guy who paid to trade up and select Akers at 1.03 is likely very informed, but just interprets that information much differently than us.

Especially this year when we don't have great information of performance against NFL caliber talent in terms of pre-season games.
