ITT we will make a list of players who are opting out of the 2020 season because of COVID-19.

Please limit commmentary and just post players - feel free to make new threads to discuss anything surprising. Might be helpfu to indicate if they have an exception for being high risk or not. I will attempt to update this post but I'm a busy guy and might not get to it.

EDIT: list growing much faster than I expected. Hopefully someone who is getting paid to do this keeps this list updated.

So far:

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, KC, G - not high risk
De'Anthony Thomas, BAL WR not high risk
Danny Vitale, NE, RB not high risk
Chance Warmack, Sea, not high risk
Najee Toran, NE, C/G not high risk
Caleb Brantley, Was, DL, HIGH RISK
Maurice Canary, DAL, CB

They will likely have that decision made for them at some point, so depending on how you look at it, it could be a very long list.

Chance Warmack, DeAnthony Thomas, Dan Vitale & Caleb Brantley apparently joined him today. I don’t think there will be a lot of big names, but you’ll get a few.

Duvernay-Tardif is a notable one, especially with questions about KC's offensive line. They replaced him with Osemele

Once a lot of end-of-roster guys, or even those competing for spots in camp, increasingly realize that playing = getting infected. "The players, they're all going to get sick," to quote Bruce Arians earlier today.

Just like the MLB, NFL reached agreements that lay out large-scale infections being an inevitable, and in their mind acceptable, cost to the season.

Plus if they opt out now, they are guaranteed 150, 000, I believe.

I think it's an advance on their salary, as the contract tolls to next season. If it's a medical reason, they get 350,000 and the contract doesn't toll.

The contract tolls either way, but the $350K guys get a year credited towards qualifying for retirement/pension, the $150K players do not.

Lots of Patriots. I wonder if that’s just because they got their cuts done ahead of a lot of teams and we’ll be seeing a lot more of these or if the Pats are just lucky.

As bad as it is to say, I can't help but wonder if there is some BB strategy here given the QB in next years draft.

Doubtful. Belichick will never coach or put his team in a high likelihood to lose games. He's just not wired that way.
