Julio Jones or AJ Green 1 lock to be a Bust???

Postby Hawks Nest 12th Man » Sun Jul 10, 2011 10:40 am

Take a look at top 10 picks of 2009, 07 , 05 , 04 , 03 , 01 and 00 NFL drafts. It's insane but not one of those drafts which had at least 2 WRs taken in top ten picks both panned out as consistent fantasy starters.

I have the 1.1 pick and after looking at this Ingram was a easy pick for me. I would rather find my WRs later in rookie draft or via free agency/trades. Just to much risk for me.

History says one will be a bust for sure. Thoughts? Can you say these two are comparable talents coming out of college as Charles Rodgers & Andre Johnson?

Charles Rogers was a lazy bleep bum and so was Peter Warrick. As far as I know both have great character, no off the field issue (Green got caught selling some memorabilia but that's virtually no issue). Just because there's 2 great receivers in the top-10 doesn't mean none of them are good. Ingram is a good RB in his own right, Green was one of the top players in the entire class.

If you just look off character issues as why those two were bust how about Randy Moss & Michael Irvin. History tells us one has a extremely high chance of being a bust. Be it character, injuries, situation or ability to adjust to the pro game, drug problems ( Koren Robinson ). Not saying neither will be good just saying there is a better than 50% chance one of be a bust

I'm not saying that I agree on this, but a lot of dynasty insiders think that AJ Green, although tall, athletic, and can jump up & make great catches, is too skinny to last at the pro level.

I will agree that Julio definitely has an NFL body, but I think that Green should be able to add some muscle without losing his speed.

Green may have a more slender frame than the others but hes a strong guy, 18 reps at 225 @ the combine. He only has potential to grow and get better. IF he is a bust i dont think his frame will be the reason.

18 reps is plenty of pop to avoid getting jammed all day at the LOS by almost anyone not named Revis or Asomugha,

to predict that one of them have to bust because in the past there were bust isnt the way i think of it, could they both bust yea, could only one of them bust, yea, could neither of them bust, yea, but to say one, both or none will do something based on nothing they, themselfs have done, is just not the way i go about it

As to the OP, I would agree that Ingram is the safest pick. If I had to pick the one guy who I felt most confident would give me ANY fantasy value, it would be Ingram. Barring injury, he will get the ball at least 175 times this year and that means some fantasy results. To me his floor (absolute floor) is as a RB3/flex for the next several years. So that makes him the safe pick. FWIW - I also think Julio is probably safer than Green. Julio may well come out of the gate (e.g. MW TB) and produce results. If Julio has a 100 yard game week 2 or 3, his trade value will be insane.

That said, I traded up to the 1.01 and took AJ Green. I did so because I believe he is the only one of the three who has a shot at being a first round start-up pick in a year or two (e.g. Calvin/Nicks, etc.). He may fall short of that, he may bust all together but I'm a gambler and I like my odds. Think about the relative difference in value between Maclin and Nicks (both awesome guys to own) and that's what I'm hoping for between Julio and Green. Add to that, Crabtree was picked ahead of both in most rookie drafts. So I could be all wrong - maybe Baldwin is the next Nicks and this whole Julio vs. Green debate will have been for naught.
