J Gordon for Perine/Meredith?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

J Gordon for Perine/Meredith?

Postby dipANDglide » Wed Nov 15, 2017 12:17 pm

12 teams, ppr

I'm not competing this year and threw out some offers. I got an interesting counter of Perine/Meredith for Gordon. Thoughts?

I think the chances are better that Meredith is productive for a fantasy team from this point vs. Gordon. As a Gordon owner that has held, I'd hate to sell for that at this point, though.

This is where I'm at. The safer side is easily Perine/Meredith. I've been holding Gordon for a couple years and would hate to sell now and see him breakout for the next 4+ years.

Devil's Advocate and JG stasher in all my leagues.

Honestly the way I'm looking at it, I've come this far holding onto JG and the lottery ticket he might be, I'm just going to hold till the season is over and he has potentially played in 5 games. At that point, one of two things will have happened:

1. He doesn't perform well when he plays and his stock plummets again so that you can't get either of these guys and missed out on the opportunity.

2. He performs, even adequately, and his stock increases beyond where it is now and you can get more in a trade if you are still inclined to move him.

I don't see either of those guys being in the top 12 of their positions but there is a glimmer that JG might be able to be that if he can redeem himself. I'd rather scratch that lottery ticket myself.
Too many teams to list here...

I'd rather have Perine or Meredith over Gordon.

I'll take Gordon. Perine is nothing special it seems. Meredith had one good season whereas Josh Gordon had one of the greatest WR seasons of all time! Had Josh played all 16 games, who knows what numbers he could have posted. Josh is only one year older as well. There is risk with all 3 players, but i'll take the sky high ceiling of Josh Gordon. Even if Josh is only 75% of what he once was, if he can stay in the league and off the weed, his floor will be Meredeith's ceiling.

Meredith for me. JG owners need a support group; it's tough to quit him if you've held on this long.

Don't know how safe Meredith and Perine side really is but I think a large population will always take the other side in any Gordon offer.

Meredith will be coming off of a major knee injury and probably won't round into form until the 2019 season as players don't typically regain explosion until the 2nd year after knee injury.

Gruden looks for every opportunity to bench Perine as soon as he makes a mistake.

I'll take the upside of Gordon and the extra roster spot over 2 guys who aren't really assured of role either.

Meredith side easily. Hell I'd rather have Calvin Johnson at this point than Josh Gordon. Perine has the backfield (early work) to himself the rest of the season behind a good offensive line. He still has time and isn't a complete bust yet.

I am baffled by the logic of "I've held him this long so I might as well keep holding." Trade value don't give one damn about how long a player has been on your roster. That time and the opportunities you might have missed are sunk costs now. You've been holding to get value, either by him playing or by trading him, and you HAVE to be open to the latter option. And if this isn't the deal, then that's cool; everyone is going to evaluate players and risk differently. But parting with an asset has to be on the merits of the trade alone, not what you gave up (be it players, picks, or time wasting away on your roster) to get the asset in the first place.
