Fun. "Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try. No hell below us. Above us only sky. Imagine all the people. Living for today. Imagine there's no countries. It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for. No religion, too. Imagine all the people. Living life in peace. You may say im a dreamer... I hope someday you'll join us. And the world will live as one."

John Lennon, The Beatles.

And then i raise with : "There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold. And she's buying a stairway to heaven. When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed. With a word she can get what she came for"

Led Zeppelin

Following by a : "Mama, take this badge off of me. I can't use it anymore. It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see. I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door. Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door. Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door...Mama, put my guns in the ground. I can't shoot them anymore. That long black cloud is comin' down. I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door."

Bob Dylan

And the best to finish : "Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven? Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven? I must be strong and carry on 'cause I know I don't belong here in heaven. Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven? Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven? I'll find my way through night and day 'cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven."

Eric Clapton

"When you believe in things you don't understand, then you suffer. Superstition ain't the way"

- Stevie Wonder - #live on Sesame street.

"I got nothing against church, only people who go there and show they're plain ignorant and don't understand, on congregations on weekends won't change their behavior, so many people are weak enough, to have to seek answers from peddlers of hope, I should know, I used to go there myself".

1st British punk band in 1979. - The Dambed.

"Where are the feasts that were promised us?".

-Jim Morrison- The Doors - Ghost song

"Those Jesus freaks sure seem friendly, but the s#!+ they believe keeps their minds all shut, and they don't even mind when the church takes a cut".

-Frank Zappa-

Bob Dylan was / is in the closet about his beliefs but he has some heavy Jewish ties. His song "with god on our side" is a must hear as it is telling of his core message of spirituality vs christianity. Also, Lou Reed's "busload of faith" is a nice message for the misled. Good tune too!

Too funny.

There is a lot out there.... Tough to type out the stuff on my phone though.

"Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies. I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife. Offer me that deathless death but good God let me give you my life"
-Hozier (2014)
+++ This one is good because millions of people thought because it was titled "take me to church" and repeated Amen throughout the chourus that it was a religious song. In fact, it was not. Looking at or reading the lyrics reveals the real message. There was much backlash to this one.

"Dear God" by XTC (1986) just a good mid 80's tune worth checking out and giving a listen. Great lyrics.

"God is dead" - Ozzy - Black Sabbath

"Im not afraid of a God that don't exist, im not a slave to a world that don't give a s#!+".
- Marilyn Manson- (2000)

After we do a few song lyrics, (which is fun), maybe we could πŸ’ pick verses from the Bible to share. There is a lot of nasty cruel stuff I'd like to share with believers that likely haven't read these parts. Murder, mass murder / genocide, unwarented brutaily to women and homosexuals, rape, kidnapping, slavery, torture, dismembering, child abuse, sodimy. #All is good and Devine, as long as it's done in the name of your God.
Peace.

I'm found of "Take me to Church" - Hozier !

My lover's got humour
She's the giggle at a funeral

Knows everybody's disapproval
I should've worshipped her sooner
If the Heavens ever did speak
She is the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday's getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
'We were born sick, ' you heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me 'worship in the bedroom'
The only heaven I'll be sent to
Is when I'm alone with you

I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
Amen, Amen, Amen

No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin

Etc...

Masterpiece and definitely not an apology of religion  Words are used but turned into a metaphoric way for a tortured relationship between a man and a woman and it even condamns christianism for his inflexibilty about homosexuality

 Blackout, I agree. Great tune. Really Funny thing about that is that tune is that a lot of Christians jumped on it as it came out due to it's title and some of the chorus lyrics. It took some time but people finally realized that it wasn't at all about any religion or any god and there was a big back lash. Did you happen to see that I mentioned that very song directly above your post? I like that you shared more lyrics with yours. I was on my phone so - only shared a bit.

Haha JFever it's not a coincidence. I've seen and it was a a direct complementary answer to yours that defends the fact that it's surely not a christian song ! I have the chance (i really think it is) to be a christian who were not a believer before. So i totally accept people with points of view like you. It's like reunite with my ex-condition and sometimes it's not bad to see the road made since. I was this "child with fingers in ears" who refused to see the truth on me haha.

Ok i go on with verses and songs...

Surely one of my favorites so far and used in a movie with Michael Douglas "The Game" . One of my favorite movie and surely my favorite actor. So i use a different way to quote Bible this time.

Advance to 1:15 if you want just the sentence.

The song today...

I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on, believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would livin' do me
God only knows what I'd be without you

I'm pretty sure you know this but that comes from a song that was likely inspired by Nietzsche famous quotation

"God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers?"

Also personally I prefer (and this coming from a NDC):

"God is dead and no one cares
If there is a hell I'll see you there
(Your god is dead)
God is dead
(and no one cares)
And no one cares
(Drowning in his own hypocrisy)
If there is a hell I'll see you there"

Surprised no one had quoted that song yet.
