Spencer Ware Value

Hey guys, with his strong Week 1 performance and recent news that he may keep the starting job even when Charles returns, how are folks valuing Spencer Ware? For my alternate last place team, I have been offered an early 2017 3rd and an 2018 2nd. I'm leaning towards accepting.

EZ pass for me. The 2nd is two years away, and 3rd round picks sound way better than they actually are. In the end you would have to get very lucky to land a player with Ware's talent/situation with either of those picks.

Appreciate the reply. I'm reconsidering the offer now. I'd like to hear what a few others think too. I am in total rebuild and Ware is not in my future plans, so I figured I'd take a 2017 3rd (which was originally my team's, and all but guarentees to be the 3.01) and a 2018 2nd. Any other thoughts?

Ware's value can honestly only go up. Right now the assumption is JC will eventually retain the starting job, which is what people are going to pay for Ware (you current offer of a 2017 3 and 2018 2nd reflect this). There is a chance JC misses extended time and Ware carves out a larger share in the backfield with a possibility he could even get the majority of snaps. If this happens his value will be worth WAY more than a 2017 3rd and 2018 2nd. Wait a few more games and if the later occurs I would be looking for a 2017 1st from a contender. Remember even if Ware isn't the guy this year, JC is still losing the battle with father time and Ware is next man up on a team that utilizes him perfectly.

About a week ago I was offered a 2017 late 1st and denied it I think his value is higher now

Totally agree with both Ware supporters above. I pass on that deal.

Ware was taken in first round of rookie draft THIS YEAR in a no-waiver wire league. Shocked me as I was hoping to grab with my early 2nd round pick. You need to get a first if moving.

JC has how long left to play? 2 years left to be the top dog if he comes back true to form. YOU are in rebuild as you said. So who is the top dog there in 2-3 yrs, if not sooner? WARE that is who. Unless you can get mid 1st 2017...I would pass.

Now I did hear he split plays very evenly with the other back, but out-touched him 2-1 or more. So, could be just play-calling or truly could be that is who the coaches wanted touching the ball. I think it is the latter. I own him too, btw.

If you are keeping Ware you have to be willing to go the long hold play. Meaning Charles will most likely be back at some point this year and will ultimately depress Wares value for this year if/when that happens.

I'm a Ware fan and hold over owner from last season and I'm willing to continue to hold him in case Charles doesn't come back to form. His value would skyrocket if Charles isn't the same or again can't stay healthy.

With that being said I haven't been offered a first round pick for him. If I was and determined it's a top half pick I'd have to give it serious consideration. Anything other then that in picks would not interest me.

Thanks for all of the insight guys. The other team just now countered offered with:
My Spencer Ware + Ryan Mathews for his 2017 1st (mid-late) and a 2017 3rd (mine, probably the 3.01).
I understand Ware is valued around a 1st, and as a rebuilding team I would like to take another 1st to pair with my 2017 1.01 after my team blows it. The only problem is selling Ryan Mathews for the 3.01 :/....
But regardless thanks all for setting me straight.

being in a rebuild is "precisely" the situation where you shouldnt trade ware away.

Disagree. I like Ware, but RB is so volatile. Ware could be nothing 2 years from now.

I highly disagree. Ware has shown a lot when given the chance. Charles is coming off his second ACL and is close to 30 years old.

Even if Charles comes back and returns to form Reid will limit him so he does not get re-injured. I think if Ware busts out another week like last you'll have a few interested bidders

I would keep him until I could get a 1st from a team in win-now mode. Post it on the message board and put him on trade bait after his next big game and see what comes in

Agree with all those against this trade. No way is Ware worth this little and his future is looking bright - value should increase.
